2 ways for a stay at home parent to earn some pocket money

If you are staying at home and taking care of your children, you might have no income or have to reply on your spouse to provide some pocket money to you. Some of the stay at home partner, either mummy or daddy might have not pocket money at all.
A friend of me whom stay at home and take care of her own 3 children, doing all the house cores and fetching children to school and learning classes the whole day, but her husband only give her about USD20 per month as pocket money or not even considered pocket money because the little money is allocated for her to eating out or take away in case she is not able to cook.
Having said that, USD20 is too little as every meal outside costs about USD1.5 to USD2, USD20 only able to buy 15 meals!
A more serious case, some have no pocket money at all, but they will try to squeeze from the monthly food or household allocation and save some out from there. I will say this is another wise way to save money too! Haha!
But, how to earn some extra pocket money if your spouse really has not enough or low income?

Here is some tips:
1. Earn via online activities, like blogging, clicking PTC sites, this could make some little money like USD20-50 per month if you able to write more blogs or spend more hours online.
2. Convert your hobby your earning channel too, make some handicrafts and selling online via Etsy or bake some cookies or cakes to sell to some friends and neighbour around you. This could make for another USD100 per month if you have good reputation and good order numbers.
And, the earning could go up to USD1,00 during festival season like Christmas, a friend of mine managed to sell about 300 cans of cookies during the festive season and made that earning figure.

We can make it possible if we think out of the box, sure we can find a good ideas on how to earn some pocket money for ourselves! Good luck!

    • This is really a pity to see a housewife in that position. Is it not controlling her from doing what she really wants to be? She has been reduced to financially dependent in the society. Doesn't she have some wishes and desires? How a husband treat his wife like that? Totally shame on him.
Of course, there are some sites that may provide some pocket money. But, they are not reliable.
First, the lady/housewife should have financial freedom and she must be in a position to earn something for her own expenses. If her husband can not fulfill her wants and desires what is the minimum thing he can give her? Totally absurd.

    • A pity that this housewife is struggling. Those tips are very useful. Now in this time and age, the woman has got to be smart and be self-reliant. If something were to happen to the main breadwinner, she has to step up to the plate. There is a website called the penny hoarder that lists plenty of opportunities to earn some side money as well as some full time positions. It is an informative website that can give anybody ideas to how to make some extra income. Hope this helps.

    • Yes, I agree. The stay at home wife should do these things so she also can have money of her own to buy whatever she likes to buy.

Having those hobbies turned to business is what I always see on televisions. Some are so artistic, that they make those accessories which they sell online.

A former officemate of mine, resigned because her business of second hand clothes, bags and shoes, became so prolific because she established a niche for Them through her online website where she would take pictures of them and post it in Facebook. Friends and friends of friend , relatives and a lot more would order that she eventually resigned to also have a stall in their house while she also sells them online.

One should really be determined to prosper.

    • Does her husband only provide her $20 a month for spending because of their budget? Or is it because he only feels like $20 is enough for her to spend a month, since she is at home caring for the kids? She still needs her "me" time and get pampered or buy something nice for herself too! After all, she is a full-time mom, caring for the kids and is busy with household chores too?

You are right - if one is home, during free time there are some things she could do to earn her own money and not solely rely on her husbands income.

    • Yes, you are right, @sivasubrahmanyam, that’s really pity that the housewife lose her financial independency after decided to stay at home and take care of the children and the family. In fact, the wife or stay at home one should get paid too, say a quarter of his/her partner’s monthly income as a appreciation of her/his contribution to the family.
Can we image, how much we need to pay for sending the children to the baby sitter? And how much it need for hiring a domestic assistant? The housewife does all this stuffs and get no paid. It is seems a bit not fair to her.
@caleb, thanks for sharing the website. Hope this help for those needed, do the opportunities have any geographical factor restriction?
@michelle, USD20 is too little, right? Agree with you, the housewife need some leaves or “me “ time as the working lady too, and deserve for some pay or something nice or some gifts or a treat. So, my husband treated me and himself too on V day, haha!:P

    • Thanks for sharing your ideas. I think even when a mother needs to stay at home she should find something she is passionate about and find a way to make some money out of it. Like you said art and crafts come in handly even selling them at a low price it will get you someone to refer you to others and get a little client base on you things.

If you like to write them find a way to make yourself a blog and use google adsense to earn some money.

There are alot of ways to get a little cash. You just need to be a bit creative.
