Many of us belonged to the night owls where we
burn the midnight oil for certain reasons.
Some of are either forced to be awake throughout
the night for self-studying , loads of homework to be
done or just for the sake of watching our favorite
K dramas.
As much as we love to stay awake past midnight, we
couldn’t ignore the hunger pangs that kept
disturbing our midnight tasks with much annoyance.
Hence, midnight snack is the solution to fix the
hunger pangs and I am sure that you would agree
with me that you wouldn’t want to drag yourself to
the kitchen, whip up something nice but mom is
going to nag at you the next morning for the mess
you had created.
Hence, it is wise to have easy to prepare and quick
to eat midnight snacks that are nutritious and
healthy.
You don’t have to gorge into a huge bowl of
delicious food especially past midnight.
You might overhaul your digestive system with
heavy meals past midnight.
Try having these light midnight snacks for a change
instead of chomping down a bag of potato chips.
Choose corn cereal instead of honey rings or cocoa
cereal. Avoid those cereal with honey with sugar
coated. High fiber cereal with bran and figs are
better although it may cost more money. Add in
fresh low fat milk or low calorie powder milk into the
cereal.
Say goodbye to salty bag of potato chips or any
other tidbits. Buy a bag of dried fruits or you can
even homemade real fruits into dried fruits on your
own. Dried fruits such as sultanas, dried mangoes,
dried apricots mix with non-salted nuts make a
great snack to chew while to surf the internet.
Avoid hamburger for midnight snack. These burgers
are high in calories and fatty, bad for your digestion.
Toast a slice of ham with a little butter, slip into
pitta bread or whole wheat bread with compliments
of cucumbers and tomatoes.
Ramen or instant noodles are high in sodium,
indigestible and cause constipation. Might as well try
a cup of yogurt ( plain original ) mix with chopped
fresh fruits such as kiwi, banana, apple, orange,
grapes or strawberries.
Fruit jam is loaded with too much sugar, bad for
your teeth. White bread contain less nutrition
compare to whole grain bread. You can homemade
your own peanut butter with roasted ground
peanuts, blend with butter and sugar under your
control.
#6- Granola Fruit Bar instead of candy bars
Avoid candy bars or chocolate bars at night. Too
much sugar might induce obesity and diabetes
problem. Go for a bar of granola fruit bar with less
sugar. Quaker brand granola bars are filling and
cheap.
#7- A cup of plain Yogurt instead of ice-cream
Say no to ice-cream, too chilly and bad for your
teeth too. Grab a cup of plain yogurt or fruity yogurt
for a quick snack.
#8- Whole wheat bread with low fat cheese instead
of white bread
I always buy a loaf of whole wheat bread which cost
a little more than white bread. In addition it has
more fibre embedded into it. I love the crusty sides
of whole wheat bread, crisp and brownish. Low fat
cheese with slices of tomatoes taste great !
#9- Strawberries with dip melted chocolates instead
of a packet of chocolate nuggets
Buy a bar of chocolates but don’t eat the whole bar.
Break into several pieces, melted 2 pieces in
microwave oven, dip fresh strawberries and pop into
your mouth.
#10- Whole grain Cracker pizza instead of real pizza
Instead of real pan pizza, I love to try out whole
grain crackers with pizza toppings. Glaze with
mayonnaise or salad dressing, sprinkle with strips of
carrots, raw green peppers and lettuce with pieces
of ham. Awesome !
