I Kings 13:
When you read the whole chapter, you will discover some striking things:
1. The man of God from Judah said more than what God told him. God gave him instructions, he actually obeyed the instructions but said more than what God sent him. Although he didn’t accept the offer made to him by the king, he rejected the reward likewise. But he uttered out what was actually meant for his consumption alone. And that was found in verse 9. The devil took the advantage of the above mistake, and used it against the man on God from Judah.
2. It was so obvious that the man of God from Judah did not wholeheartedly trust God. Reason was that, he would have ask the old prophet to let him receive from God also before he would follow him. When God want to send him the message, how did God talk to him, did God send the old prophet? NO. this impatience led to his untimely death. Probably he was hungry at that time- if that is true, then he did allow the situation around him influence his trust in God.
Lessons
What God send us we should do, don’t go too further or too lower— do the exact thing and let God handle the rest.
Too much words by the man of God from Judah was used against him, so also, too much words has being used against us severally. So many people have died due to the words of their mouth. This is a call for us to be more careful of our utterances especially when we want to justify an action.
The idea of God says to me that I should tell you is of an utmost concern here. You are a child of God, Let God talk to you also. Be patient. Wait for the Lord, don’t rush – most mistakes are being made due to rushing. When God says anything, he always confirm it.
Don’t allow situations around you influence your decision. Be firm. Don’t be controlled by situation but control situation. You allow situation to control you when you are glued to the media or when you steal because you need money. It shall be well with us in Jesus name.
