@4cryingoutloud Do you make your chicken any particular way when you cook this dish? My mother always used to buy a canned or jarred chicken, only for when she cooked chicken and dumplings. I’m not even sure that she knows why (probably my grandmother used chicken she’d canned…)

I don’t make dumplings with plain stewed chicken very often, but I do love them! We usually make them to go with a thick chicken soup or a beef stew. They are always gobbled up far too fast!

@peachpurple Your porridge with peanuts and minced meat sounds interesting. Do you make it with rice, or with some other grain?

Most people here think oats when they hear the words “porridge,” but my mother grew up eating a cereal called Red River. It’s a blend of grains that includes wheat, rye and flaxseed. She always said there was millet too, but it doesn’t seem to be part of the recipe.

Personally, I like a good bowl of oatmeal but I really love cream of wheat (farina) and cream of rice porridge.

@kaka135 There is some link between morning sickness and hormone levels. My levels are always very high, so more morning sickness 🙁

The only time I wasn’t sick was when I miscarried. The pregnancy tests were coming back kind of borderline, and the doctor knew I’d conceived but he couldn’t find the heartbeat. I lost the baby at 9 weeks but it had likely stopped developing normally by 6 weeks, when the morning sickness usually kicks in for me.

@kaka135 I made that one on a site called Canva. I like to use their templates sometimes, just for fun. They have a wide variety of graphic types and sizes, and lots of sample layouts you can customize. It’s free, for anyone who wants to try it 🙂

That will be most appreciated, @admin! I am very familiar with using the WP dashboard to edit posts and have no problem creating images that will be te right size for the site. All I need to know is what the best sizes are, and how to fix any images that are not displaying correctly 🙂

@peachpurple I had really meant to add a separate area of the forum for writing topics, but it turns out what you’re really creating is a group with a forum inside it. That worked, so now the forum subject I wanted to post is in the right place 🙂

@kaka135 you’re very lucky that the morning sickness didn’t last too long. With my son, it didn’t stop until two whole days after I gave birth!

Yes, I do see the edit option. I think it may have been there before too, but I don’t remember for sure.

BTW, @kaka135, your score is up to 15 now 🙂

@kaka135 I lived on ginger for my morning sickness! I always carried candied ginger with me for convenience.

You should ask your doctor or midwife, though, because if you take ginger in medicinal quantities it can increase your risk of bleeding. Some ladies are already at higher risk, so it may not be safe to use ginger for morning sickness.

@jentleheart Did you know it’s actually not recommended to eat too much citrus when you have a cold with a sore throat? The high acid content can irritate already tender mucous membranes. And there are lots of other great ways to get your vitamin C! Bell peppers, dark leafy greens, and broccoli are all sources of vitamin C. And if you want something a little acidic without going full-on citrus, cook with tomato!

@kaka135 Yes, it is handy to see who voted! Now if only the replies were threaded – or at least the reply would insert the username!

I must confess that I was surprised to see that the Support person who was posting about how to get started on the site is still ranked Newbie! It made me wonder if maybe the ranking system is new…

I also wonder whether there is any impact on our rate of pay – or maybe privileges – if we go up in ranking. And of course what the other ranks are, and how to earn them 🙂

May 6, 2016 at 11:35 am

@peachpurple I think the score comes from people voting up the comments you write. I don’t know if it affects our rate of pay or anything, but I’ve noticed that in my points history some of my comments or reply are earning more than others. I wonder if this is because some were voted up?

My score is still low too. Give it time! You’re very active in the forums and commenting on posts. You will see your score increase quickly, I suspect 🙂

I’m still trying to get the hang of the forums here. Did I choose the right option to create this forum? I’m not sure!

Disappointed that the graphic just shows up in the corner as a thumbnail. I was aiming more for a banner of sorts…

@peachpurple I also like to vote up a comment that is thoughtful and that has some substance to it. I wouldn’t vote for a comment that is just a few words, or that doesn’t seem to relate to the post.
