Just checking in to see if anyone has heard from support. It seems we are now at a point where two consecutive months’ worth of payments have gone unpaid and yet people here continue to publish. View

@grecy095 Yes, it does help to vent here. I love that I have supportive people to talk to here at LB 🙂

@scheng1 I was actually able to switch the UK spelling, but that’s almost as annoying because Canadian English is different from both! We use some UK spellings and some US spellings…

The much bigger problem is the app assumes I’m stupid. It is very simplistic, and often can’t tell the difference between different forms or uses of a word. It doesn’t know how to punctuate sentences when an individual’s name is included in a phrase that otherwise needs setting off with a comma. It misses some really glaring spelling mistakes. And it badly misinterprets some sentences altogether.

It really also can’t cope with the way people abbreviate writing when speaking casually in a forum like this one. It fusses over missing determiners and other small things of that nature. Sometimes I know they’re missing, but it’s a stylistic choice when speaking colloquially. Other times, the app gets upset when a determiner isn’t even required, tells me I have a subject-verb agreement issue that simply doesn’t exist, or misinterprets a phrase so completely I am not even sure what it’s on about.

This was one extremist. There are so many other peace-loving Muslims I’ve known in person or met online. My opinions and feelings towards these folks are not changed in the least. It’s extremism that harms, not Islam.

I don’t know that anyone is going out of their way to label the people impacted, @4cryingoutloud. But it is a fact that it was a gay bar and that the LGBT community in Orlando is devastated by the killing and wounding of many of its members.

It could be because of the tag, or you could have used a phrase that tripped the spam filters. The name of a well-known cleaning product set off those filters recently on one site! It’s an old brand that many will know, but it contains the spelling of a racial slur in it. So it was a “forbidden” word….

We always use a list. If something is on special, I will note the terms of the sale so we’ll be sure to choose the right item.

@scheng1 Even in North America, we can have problems with IP address banning. If there’s been abuse sometimes a whole block of addresses will be affected because the site owners know that with dynamic IP addresses, the abuser will have multiple addresses over time.

They can’t pinpoint the specific person or computer, in order to target the ones causing the abuse. Instead, they try to catch the violator by banning a group of addresses and hoping he’ll be blocked too. Sadly, this is how honest people end up getting blacklisted.

Obviously, it’s worse in countries where the infrastructure is not developed. That’s why so many Filipinos and Indians (among others) have issues joining some sites 🙁

@peachpurple Yes, you just substitute your username (with a small “p” as that’s how it is in your referral link) for mine.

That same little bit of code can be added to the link for any page on the site to give you passive income from visitor referrals 🙂

There is no new content for a long time, and even those who loudly defended the site months ago are silent. Tony still owes me over $50 and is still keeping many of my posts that he won’t let me delete.

Yes, the new TOS on the site says he owns the copyright to your writing.

I expect the site will die off when he can no longer afford his hosting costs.

Did you know that singing uses a different part of the brain from talking? A person who has a stroke or other impairment that prevents speech can often sing to communicate. Singing also helps people to memorize information, and we’ve found that it can help teach people language despite a developmental delay 🙂

Looking forward to reading your post, Grace!

@grecy095 and @scheng1 Here in Canada it’s very easy to add email addresses to a PayPal account. you can easily add or remove addresses, and if you give these to a site like LB, all they will see is the address you supply. They wouldn’t know if it’s connected to a PayPal account they already banned. So banning by PayPal is not reliable.

I have moderated groups on dozens of websites over roughly 20 years, and the only reliable method for preventing mischief is close monitoring of new members. Any automated method – be it moderating posts, blocking IP addresses, barring people from countries that have a high incidence of abuse, etc. – will always have an unintended negative impact on some honest people. And we have seen the proof here, that the cheaters will always find the loopholes.

Placing new members on strict moderation and allowing trusted members more freedom is the most effective way to prevent spam, plagiarism, trolling, and other forms of abuse. Most people who are going to commit abuse will not stick around long enough to jump through the hoops. And once someone has gone through the process of working to be removed from moderation, they generally won’t abuse.

I have already suggested this to @support as a means to prevent abuse and keep content publishing more smoothly. I’m disappointed that it didn’t even get a response, but not all that surprised. Every new site owner thinks they can do better than the last guy, but they all end up repeating at least some of the mistakes that have already been made elsewhere. Fear of losing control is a big factor. But few site owners can see when they are already losing control…..

Canada has not legalized bestiality, and far from it! Check out the info on Snopes:

Do you mean in the forum? You can add tags or not, and if you do just separate them with a comma.

June 11, 2016 at 6:08 pm

@lovern I’m glad to hear it! And thanks for making me smile 😀

@bestwriter I’ve seen it mentioned on at least one other site. It may be intended to prevent some sort of glitch with the accounts.
