Nowadays here, shows are done in such a way, that it would be for the weekdays from Mondays to Fridays, then some for only on weekends.
And on weekends, mostly would be, shows good for children or for the family since the parents would be home because there’s no work.
This pattern is good since the management knows what to really capture on these particular days.

When the shows take a break, i.e. from May to September and some break from January to July, viewers will watch something else. On line, people forget to go back.

Long breaks do not make sense for people will wonder why.Maybe they are doing some manipulations.

It is a ‘season’. The season runs for nine months in Vintage time, about five months now. And theres a break. Often the show is re run during the break, now new shows are introduced and often if they don’t catch the viewer not only does that show croak but so does the show it was replacing.

Television show producers/directors, etc. should be creative enough to get more viewership or retain patrons; and one way is by employing cross-overs which you mentioned because those famous artists have loyal followers/fans and they will switch channels wherever they are.
And it widens the plots. It brings in new ideas and the show becomes a bit of a hybrid, interesting and breaking the mold.
