DR KOKIL AGARWAL wrote a new post, IS SHOUTING AT KIDS JUSTIFIED? 7 years, 8 months ago

Raising kids is one of the biggest challenge that any person has to face in life. It is a big responsibility that needs full devotion, dedication, time and energy.
Present day parents can easily agree to the […]

    • Parents should know about this; especially young parents who do not know what shouting at their children can do to them. Thanks for giving this information; that it affects them emotionally even in their adult lives.

They should really be patient in explaining to their children what they wanted them to do, or for them to behave; it can be done in a nice way.

    • Very true. We didn’t ever shout at our daughter when she was a kid. Instead , we talk to her in a soft voice about what we would like to correct on her.

We cajole her into following our advise.

For example when we are at the mall and she wants a new dress or toy we will tell her we don’t have that in our budget. But we can just buy one on my payday.

Thus. she won’t insist anymore. From then on, when she wants something at the mall , she would ask “Do you have money, mother. I like that one but if you don’t have the money, we will buy it next time when you have your payday again” .

She grew up to be a smart and thrifty girl. 🙂

    • A issue which many parents are trying to find out how to cope with this issue. From my experience I have observed is that children are very intelligent and they are able to make out clearly what can get the work done for them. They understand things whom they can trouble and make them run around and who they cannot fool around with. The best answer is one should not shout at them but at the same time be stern in their tone children understand the tone better. Later once they fall in life they also have to be counselled what they are supposed and what is expected of them and why.

If they feel convinced that the rational being put before them by their parents is logical they will most probably understand what is being told and fall in line. It should be a nice mix of different tactics which will make them understand things and most importantly if they feel it is for their good and are convinced they will fall in line and understand. Thanks for raising an important issue which many parents are struggling to figure out and many are confused.

    • Well, where I come from shouting is the order of the day, but in the end it hardly yields result. Going by this article, it’s like beating a child constantly to change the child, but its the reverse, the child gets used to the beating. I have learnt to control my anger these days, because shouting just gets it done at the moment, but not permanently.

    • Kids hated to be shouted at, they find mom annoying, nagging and bothersome.
Ends up not listening and lots of argument follows.

    • I believe it’s not an easy thing to raise a child but yelling and shouting all the time, it won’t help too much. I think it’s better to try and explain things to a child than to yell all the time and stress kids out. But sometimes when it gets overwhelming I think you almost can’t help but shout at kids.

Yes, in everything , the key is moderation.

Taking of drugs in excess can make us sick or addicted to it.

Overeating of oranges in a day can result to stomachache.

Just eat one or two everyday so you can reap it’s health benefits. And this is true with all kind of foods.

Appreciate you following the discussion about depression. Life is neither a bed or roses nor a crown of thorns it is what one makes his or her life to be and what one thinks about the situation which he or she is in. You win some and lose some that is what life is. People who seem to understand and appreciate this view of life seem to be better…[Read more]

Yes, she could have died , had the family did not opt for a second opinion for the gallstone operation that the doctor advised to be done at the soonest.

This actually happened about more than 15 years ago. […]

    • Good thing your family sought a second opinion. It is so saddening that some doctors would just decide on conducting an operation on the patient without considering some of the perils involved.

We should also be careful with our diet to avoid such ailments, or the so-called lifestyle diseases.

      • From then on, we know already that we should always seek second opinion when it is a serious ailment.

Good thing that now our daughter is already a doctor. We can always seek her second opinion since she’s not here in the province where we reside.

Indeed, even at an early age, we should learn how to live a healthy life without depriving us though, of the delicious foods. The key is to eat in moderation, exercise or being so mobile and having a happy disposition in life.

Yes some have been distorted very much. There is currently a show “ChandraNandini” on Star Plus, which looks like it has distorted the historical events during Chandragupta Maurya’s time a bit too much.
Programs like “Bharat Ek Khoj” were better and even “The Sword of Tipu Sultan”.

I think the best way is to eat natural, fresh foods like fresh vegetables and fruits. We ought to take care of food combinations like not eating milk with fish, or meat.
    Avoid curds with pickles.
Do not eat too much refined flour products like cake, pastries, samosas(Indian fried stuff).
Consumption of Pizzas, burgers ought to be within…[Read more]

@tarasquirrel yes books can have more details. Movies have to cut out some part or shorten it. Exceptions can be in shorter length stories. In cases like “3 idiots” – an adaptation of “Five Point someone” by Chetan Bhagat, the movie was almost as good as the novel, and in some places better.
But of course, it also depends on the script writer,…[Read more]

Cassy Janine wrote a new post, HOW TO DEVELOP CHILD’S LANGUAGE 7 years, 8 months ago

Lately, I was scanning my notes during my college days and I found an interesting topic regarding parenting and child development. Below are the questions and the answer of my interviewee when my instructor […]

    • Our daughter grow up surrounded by matured people. I instructed our helper who also is her nanny because me and my hubby are both at the office the whole day, not to baby talk with her.

Of course she started to be able to talk by those syllables first , Mama and Papa. But what I remembered is her for not long being able to talk straight already meaning no more those like twisted tongue.

I think that will really happen if all of us will always talk as we talk not baby talk just so the toddler can understand us. It’s actually one way of teaching our babies outgrow their baby talk fast.

    • Parenting has its own challenges. Today the children are very intelligent, shrewd and communicative. One has to be very careful before promising them anything as once you make your promise they latch on to it. They keep reminding you that you did not keep up your promise that registers very well in their minds. Parents have to spend more time with their children but at the same time have to be stern where they are supposed to be and see that the children become independent in their lives.

One must try his or her best to see that the child gets the best and has happy memories of his or her childhood. Childhood is the foundation based on which the personality of the child is formed. So due care has to be taken that the child gets the support required. Agreed one cannot give all things at all times and the same has to be told to children and they should be made aware of that. Once they understand that concept they will be wise in money matters.
