Actually I think it’s the same in many parts of the world. Weddings are for showing off and I doubt with all the stress preparing that the bride and groom are actually very happy that day. They have to care for all the guests and make sure the party is going well. I want to have a small wedding without all the fuss.

Marriage is a joyous ceremony. But in America, the ceremony is over in about a half an hour. As for the food? It all depends on how much money people want to spend. Some can prepare elaborate dinners while others serve finger foods and sandwiches. The wedding reception may last for a few hours. But never for a week! Some couples bypass all that hoopla and elope!
My son went to his friend’s wedding in Jordan. He said the celebrations lasted for a week! At the end of the week, the couple were officially announced as husband and wife. I asked him WHY? He said the families need to know if they can get along with each other.
I’m thinking: “Screw that! I’m not marrying the whole family! If we can’t get along, my husband and I just move and live somewhere else; or stay where we are and mind our own business!”
LOL. When you said “messy” I didn’t think you were talking about food. I thought you were talking about nosy folks interfering in a couple’s relationship!!
Weddings were never meant to be for “showing off”. They were meant to unite a man and a woman in holy matrimony and to continue the process of having a happy family life. They were meant to join a couple in the sight of God and witnesses. “Therefore shalt a man leave his father and mother and cling to his wife; and the two shall become one.” That’s what God intended. All that culture and tradition stuff is just mankind “adding on”. It can be fun. In fact, in America, some people crash wedding parties just so they can get some free food! The wedding reception is usually a family celebrating the continuation of their family line. But it’s not necessary for a happy marriage. Thank goodness! 🙂
