Economics is said to be the “queen of sciences”.  It is not only an academic subject that one study in the four corners of the classroom but one could apply its teachings and principles in daily life.

    • That is so true. In developed countries, jobs abound and unemployment is not as high as those in developing countries like the Philippines.

One reason is that at developed countries, there are a lots of businesses that needs manpower. While in developing countries, businesses are just beginning to become many.

Another thing is that here in the Philippines, a lot of graduates are over qualified to the jobs they are in , because they just have to take those jobs since jobs in line with the courses they graduate are just a few. Sad, but there are a lot of graduates who are really unhappy with the jobs they have.

But if only there are more big companies, everyone can have a job in line with their jobs.

“It is better to be feared than loved. If you cannot be both.” according to Niccolo Michiavelli in his book “The Prince”. This quotation seems to be quite strange for us modern readers.

Now two things are being c […]

    • The two emotions are I think opposites.

I don’t want respect, if it comes from the person’s fear of me. On the first place, I don’t want to be feared by a person. It gives me the feeling that I am cruel. Nobody wants to be perceived as cruel.

I want to be loved not feared. Because when one is loved by people, respect comes naturally from them to you. They respect you because you have lovable traits that endeared them to you, like you are kind and a compassionate person.

Arnold Cruz wrote a new post, Corrupt Officials And Employees Has No Place In The Government Service 7 years, 8 months ago

The recent news in the Philippines says that 92 government officials and employees were dismissed from the government service due to graft and corruption.

It’s about time that the Civil Service Commission as w […]

    • I really hope that with our new President here in the Philippines, all the corrupt officials should be dismissed from office. Lifestyle check should be done to each and every one of them.

Those who have been proven to have their own businesses acquired while in public office should be further investigated and be dismissed from their office with benefits forfeited.

That way, people who are in public office will really see to it that they will not be corrupt also and gain richness while in office.

    • Not only in Philippines but anywhere in the world. Corruption must not be tolerated. As this is the main source from where black money is generated. These people who work in government offices get all the job and facilities and still crave for more which is disgusting to say the least. All this while the common man of the country is suffering. This happens in almost all the countries. The sooner these people are weeded out of the system it is good for the economy of the country.

This corruption starts from the top usually and the system runs down in the form of a chain to the bottom. Since many get away others also get emboldened and end up doing such things and corrupting the society. This eats into the vitals of the economy of the country. And takes the country and its growth down in the long run. Such people should be removed from service and jailed as that will act as a deterrent to other indulging in such malpractices.

    • Corruption is widespread in many parts of the world, but in India and some parts of Asia it is very rampant and almost a disease and becoming a habit, which is not easy to break out of.
However, in recent years, many state Governments in India and the central Government, as well as in some other Asian countries have started becoming stricter against corruption.
This fight is not easy, and the problem is that not only Government officials, but public too has started accepting corruption and breaking law as part of life.
This is a bit of moral problem too, and I believe education at home, apart from school can take care of this.

    • Corruption by way of corrupt people has no place anywhere! But they especially should not hold government positions. So whenever they are exposed? Publicly give them the BOOT! They are in positions of public trust. When they violate that trust everybody should know and they should be adequately punished for their deeds!!!

    • Government officials and employees should always think that they have jobs, they have the positions because their salaries came from people’s money, from taxes. And they are there to do good for the office and to serve the people well.

    • Graft and corruption deeply rooted in our country hard to eliminate. It might eventually be eliminated in percentage, but when other president comes in, it goes back to the oldest system which is condemned by the world.

    • There are many such rules, Acts, Laws, and volumes of commentaries written on corruption in every Government of a country. There are many officials and departments coming into existence to arrest corruption. There are many courts with many lawyers moving in the corridors searching for their clients and moving around courtrooms to defend their clients. Everything is for proper implementation of the so-called rules, regulations, Laws, and blah..blah…There are many politicians coming up with various colorful flags, shirts, dresses, caps etc., in the name of serving the public but no one could really arrest corruption. Is it such a great and invincible thing in nature?
If the corruption is unable to be conquered then the forces acting against it must be very weak. But, this is not the thing because the corruption is prevailing among the forces acting against corruption. This is the only reason for its all-pervasiveness.

    • there are lots or laws and i hope all people obay it taht is the only reason or thing to have peace and ll live peacefully with comfort and no stress at all in live, its fantasy i guess and will not be true guys

    • Here in the Philippines, a lot of cases like this happens.

The accused have already suffered a lot in jail before it us finally proven that he is not involved in the case thrown at him.

Now that we have a new president, I hope he also finds the time to make a law expediting the cases of those being proved guilty but is already in jail.

Sad that the former president Arroyo is one of them. She suffered much while being in house arrest before she’s finally freed because she wasn’t proven to be guilty.

    • I hope no such thing ever happens in the Philippines. It would be very sad but I don’t think the government and people will allow for such a thing to happen. These terrorists are really ruining the state of affairs all around the world!

    • Hi t z,

Thank you so much for your reply. May God in His Infinite Wisdom do not allow such thing to happen to our beloved country.

I think the Filipino People are politically matured enough not to allow such thing to happen. We cannot allow and afford Mindanao to become the training and breeding grounds for future and potential terrorist that will bring havoc not only to our country but to other country as well.

With this in mind, it is clear that Isis as a terrorist organization is losing its foothold in the Middle East that’s why they are considering to relocates or spread their own imaginary caliphate.

The Philippines is a Republican and a Democratic State. As such we don’t recognize any monarchy, much less any caliph or caliphate. A caliphate is not part of our history, culture and tradition. It is against our Constitution and existing laws.

Thus, those jihadist or Islamist terrorist must better think twice. If they declare a caliphate, I think there will be an all-out war between their local contact in Mindanao the Abu Sayyaf and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

As I mentioned in my blog, the Filipino People are far wiser than they could ever think. Maybe Isis is under estimating our resolve. To do so is very dangerous.

    • An article to be read by all writers and those working as journalists. Interesting to not that how many people are following the process to be followed and how many media companies are telling their journalists to stand by their words. It is the age of the paid media and that is what creates people of breaks them. This media also has the power to make or break governments. Media which is supposed to be the fourth estate. Has turned out to be a money making industry. It is sad but it is true. There are very few news papers which follow these canons strictly. Thanks for the share.

      • Hi Krishna,

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes you are right that there are “paid media” practitioners nowadays. Those journalists or media practitioners that consider only their selfish ends and see journalism as a means or vehicle for personal enrichment of aggrandizement prostitutes journalism as a profession and callings.

These type of media practitioners or journalists are a big shame to their profession and to their comrades in the profession.

We have a term in the Philippines for these shameless media practitioners or journalists and such practice. We called them “envelopemental

journalism”. Why? Simply because these hack writers or paid writers received their money from their patrons inside an envelope—meaning the money is contained inside an envelope given to a journalist or media practitioner, that’s why the term “envelopemental journalism”.

It is journalism for money and nothing else, to the disadvantaged and detriment of the public welfare. Such brand of journalism if ever we can call it journalism has no place in our society and must be immediately condemn and expose at once.

We can only hope and pray that the present and next generation of journalist will be true to their profession and callings.
Otherwise, journalism for sure will lose the very reason for its existence.
