What is your favourite song?

I am sure you may have more than one song in your mind, don’t worry, you can post them all. It will be better if you provide us some link of the song then we all can enjoy the song. And we can hear some new songs as well.

Don’t worry about language, music has no language.

Well, let me start first. I love songs and there are many songs which are favourite to me. It depends on mood as well. I like songs mainly with strong lyrics. I mostly listen Bengali songs, I also listen little bit Hindi and English songs.

Today, I will share a popular song of Bob Dylan. I am sure most of you have listen this song. But if you have not listened yet, you can listen it here – Blowin in the Wind

Lyrics:

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you can call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they’re forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind.

Yes, how many years can a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
Yes, how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?
Yes, how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn’t see?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind.

Yes, how many times must a man look up
Before he can really see the sky?
Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
Songwriters: BOB DYLAN

Another great song, I can not resist myself to put here. I am sure most of you have listened this song before.

Where Have All The Flowers Gone (Pete Seeger)

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Gone for husbands everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the husbands gone, long time passing?
Where have all the husbands gone, long time ago?
Where have all the husbands gone?
Gone for soldiers everyone
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing?
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Gone to flowers, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Another of my favourite Song. You can hear the song here  – “25 Minutes

After some time I’ve finally made up my mind

She is the girl and I really want to make her mine

I’m searching everywhere to find her again

To tell her I love her

And I’m sorry ’bout the things I’ve done

I find her standing in front of the church

The only place in town where I didn’t search

She looks so happy in her weddingdress

But she’s crying while she’s saying this

[Chorus:]

Boy I’ve missed your kisses all the time but this is

Twentyfive minutes too late

Though you travelled so far boy I’m sorry your are

Twentyfive minutes too late

Against the wind I’m going home again

Wishing me back to the time when we were more than friends

But still I see her in front of the church

The only place in town where I didn’t search

She looked so happy in her weddingdress

But she cried while she was saying this

[Chorus:]

Boy I’ve missed your kisses all the time but this is

Twentyfive minutes too late

Though you travelled so far boy I’m sorry your are

Twentyfive minutes too late

Out in the streets

Places where hungry hearts have nothing to eat

Inside my head

Still I can hear the words she said

[Chorus:]

Boy I’ve missed your kisses all the time but this is

Twentyfive minutes too late

Though you travelled so far boy I’m sorry your are

Twentyfive minutes too late

I can still hear her say…….

I also love bob dylan. One of his famous songs that I really like is Mr. Tambourine Man.

I don’t know but the melody of that song puts me in a mellow and a little sad mood. I feel really melancholic eveytime I listen to that song but it is my favorite ever since I’ve heard it way back in my highschool days. I wish there are more songs that I feel equally good about but it’s just this one.

Most of the time, the other songs I love are songs which I can relate to depending on my mood but they’re effect is not as strong as this song – Mr. Tambourine Man.

I also heard that this song is actually about a drug dealer, is that even true?

Guessing from your favorite songs, we, more or less, are of the same age bracket.

This was the song we strum when we started learning how to play the guitar for its chord is the basic chords that you can play in some other songs, like Dreamin’ by the Cascades. I forgot the other songs.

Most Beatles songs also are the songs we love to listen to.

Then in the 70’s, I was in high school, I love the songs of the Jackson 5, with their fave song Ben and Give Love on Christmas Day.

Now, I love to listen to the 30’s-60’s songs and samba songs.

My all time favorites :

“Tujhe Dekha to ye jaana sanam” – DDLJ : Bollywood : 1995-96

“Golden Eye Title track” – Golden Eye : 1995

Kishore Kumar Songs

Songs of movies of early 1990s like “Main Duniya Bhoola doonga” by Kumar Sanu(and he has a Bengal connect 🙂  )
and Lata Mangeshkar songs.

Well, it will be very difficult for me to pinpoint one song only.

@slayer08 Dylan denied that the song is about drug dealers. This is what wiki says about the song interpretation: –

There has been speculation that the song is about drugs such as LSD or marijuana, particularly with lines such as “take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship” and “the smoke rings of my mind”, Dylan has always denied the song is about drugs. Though he was using marijuana at the time the song was written, Dylan was not introduced to LSD until a few months later. Other commentators have interpreted the song as a call to the singer’s spirit or muse, or the singer’s search for transcendence. In particular, biographer John Hinchey has suggested in his book Like a Complete Unknown that the singer is praying to his muse for inspiration; Hinchey notes that ironically the song itself is evidence the muse has already provided the sought-after inspiration. Mr. Tambourine Man has also been interpreted as a symbol for Jesus Christ and for the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The song may also reference gospel music, with Mr. Tambourine Man being the bringer of religious salvation.

Dylan has cited the influence of Federico Fellini’s movie La Strada on the song, while other commentators have found echoes of the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud. Author Howard Sounes has identified the lyrics “in the jingle jangle morning I’ll come following you” as having been taken from a Lord Buckley recording. Bruce Langhorne, who performs guitar on the track, has been cited by Dylan as the inspiration for the tambourine man image in the song. Langhorne used to play a giant, four-inch-deep “tambourine” (actually a Turkish frame drum), and had brought the instrument to a previous Dylan recording session.

@ilovelife913 I am not sure whether we are from same age bracket but I like old English songs more than the recent ones from metal bands. For Bengali I listen to the new songs mostly at the same time I like the old songs from golden era or Rabindra Sangeet.

Would you please share your favourite song?

Absolutely PEEUSH, it is very hard to point out single song. I wrote that in the very first comment. DDLG song is very popular.

“Main Dunia Bhula dunga ” is a nice song. There is a Bengali connection in Hindi songs from long back. You may like songs from music director Salil Chowdhury or singers starting from Hemant, Manna to todys Shreya Ghosha or Arijit Singh.

I have not listened Golden Eye Title track. So I am going to listen that song right now.

If you are more interested in lyrics then you will definitely love this song. Amazing lines – “You think that I don’t even mean/A single word I say…/It’s only words/And words are all I have/To take your heart away”

Full lyrics below, please listen to this song and let me know.

“Words” by Boyzone

Smile, an everlasting smile

A smile can bring you near to me

Don’t ever let me find you gone

Cause that would bring a tear to me

This world has lost it’s glory

Lets start a brand new story

Now my love

You think that I don’t even mean

A single word I say…

It’s only words

And words are all I have

To take your heart away

Talk, in everlasting words

And dedicate them all, to me

And I will give you all my life

I’m here if you should call to me

You think that I don’t even mean

a single word I say…

[Chorus, repeat]

Da da da da da da da

Da da da da da da da da

Da da da da da da da da

Da da da da da da da da

This world has lost it’s glory

Let’s start a brand new story

Now, my love

You think that I don’t even mean

a single word I say…

[Repeat chorus twice]

I love old songs. I love 80’s songs. Songs from these artist are mostly on my playlists, Air Supply, The Jets, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Queen, Journey and many more.

As of now I am listening to my Jet’s playlists. They are the ones who sang the songs like You Got it All, Make It Real, Anytime, The Same Love and many more.

I also love songs from Gabrielle. Gabrielle sang the songs Out of Reach and Wish you Were Here.

Sometimes I love rock, so I go for Avril Lavigne.

I love boybands too. If I want to pump up, I will choose Nsync, One Direction, Five and Backstreetboys.

I love Tiffany and Debbie Gibson too. I think the 2000 version of them are Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

I don’t specific genra. Sometime I go to alternative, then ballad and then pop. It depends on my mood.

How many of you like this song from Brian Adams?

“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You”

Look into my eyes – you will see

What you mean to me.

Search your heart, search your soul

And when you find me there you’ll search no more.

Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for.

You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for.

You know it’s true:

Everything I do, I do it for you.

Look into your heart – you will find

There’s nothin’ there to hide.

Take me as I am, take my life.

I would give it all, I would sacrifice.

Don’t tell me it’s not worth fightin’ for

I can’t help it, there’s nothin’ I want more

You know it’s true:

Everything I do, I do it for you, oh, yeah.

There’s no love like your love

And no other could give more love.

There’s nowhere unless you’re there

All the time, all the way, yeah.

Look into your heart, baby…

Oh, you can’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for.

I can’t help it, there’s nothin’ I want more.

Yeah, I would fight for you, I’d lie for you,

Walk the wire for you, yeah, I’d die for you.

You know it’s true:

Everything I do, oh, I do it for you.

Everything I do, darling.

You will see it’s true.

You will see it’s true.

Yeah!

Search your heart and your soul

You can’t tell it’s not worth dying for

I’ll be there

I’d walk the fire for you

I’d die for you

Oh, yeah.

I’m going all the time, all the way.

@ IchchheMrityu

thank you!! I really appreciate you looking into this. I really love that song, I’ve been listening to it since I was in my elementary days. I was a weird kid who loves old songs and my friends used to laugh at me because of it. I didn’t mind, to me, their a bunch of boob-tube babies, obsessed in MTV and new songs that don’t have much meaning.

I love Dylan and I am planning to let my son learn about him too when he’s old enough.
