Writing Sites; Learning From Mistakes/Successes
Author | Posts |
I joined Hubpages about the same time as you did. The earnings weren’t bad. They collapsed in 2010. After that 5c a month was pretty standard. Why write so many words, so many images, and get so little? And when you look at their ‘top’ stories, they are nothing I much care to read.

Kaylar, you have started a nice job, keep it up! |

Thank You, I will… moving on to Triond |
|
Now I’m going to Talk about Triond. This was the Best Site. Why? Firstly they paid you, and you would also be paid via Adsense. Secondly, they had a number of subsites; Webmd, if you were discussing medical/heath, Notecook, if you were doing recipes, Socyberty if you were dealing with cultural/social situations, on and on, so that each sub site looked as a separate site. Triond always paid. If you made 53c or $53 they always paid. One could post poetry, fiction stories, news, and put in as many or as few images as one liked. Okay… What happened? Mod/No Mod There were moderators who were more problem than passage. They’d bounce items they didn’t like. Not that there was something wrong with them. So the Mods were bounced. The A.I. they used instead was rubbish. It blocked a lot of items which were perfectly acceptable, i.e. if you wrote about Breast Cancer, the item was marked ‘porn’. If you quoted your source, your item was bounced for plagiarism. This was taken care of… Then came the Fake News. One writer wrote a piece called ‘Johnny Depp commits suicide’…. (this was 2007). He got a lot of hits. Others decided to do the ‘White House Insider’ in 2009 to attack Barack Obama, and were so successful, they got their own subsite on Triond. As there was no moderation and as Google wanted to introduce its free writing site Knol, Triond was slapped down as a ‘Content Farm’ and did nothing to fix itself. In 2016 Triond went down without a word. |

@Mahesh I agree with you all but luckily I got paid from all the sites mentioned in this post. I earned almost $4500 from Bubblews, $200 or more from Tinycent, $286 so far from Niume, $70+ from Literacybase, Factoidz, Triond, Wikinut, Yahoo etc. The only site I did not earn anything is Hubpages and Squidoo but I enjoy interaction on these sites like anything because these were among first sites. |

with the Bub I was paid $25 then $50 then stopped. They didn’t pay people from the Caribbean or Africa. As Dixit is Indian he paid a segement of Indian members, and American and British members. He slipped up with an America who flagged him. I earned on the other sites when they were alive. Now it is only this one, Niume and Mylot. |

There was a site called Wikinut. It was a pleasant site and it paid. Every item was moderated but not severely. The site demanded long items… over 1k with 5 images, 5 bold words and 5 links. Then one could get a Star. One would be on the Star Page and likely to be read. It was a solid site. A lot of articles, comments, interactions, and although the pay wasn’t great, it was steady. Then a couple of crapwriters came on. Now this site specifically mentions not posting what I call ‘Shards’ that is taking a long article and chopping it into slices and posting it. On Wikinut one gal got on and gave some sob story to a mod about being disabled. She posted Shards. One of them was Comedy Programs of the 50s. She posted a 500 word article on Monday another on Tuesday and anyone can see that what she did was chop up one article and make two or three. I pointed this out to the Mod who slapped me away, gave her stars, so that if you went to Wikinut you would see 14 items, and 7 were her’s. So readership dropped and payment ended. You can post there… but you won’t get paid. |

Wikinut is still there. I am not sure how much they are making. But considering there are some people who do write, I am guessing it is going to be moving. Only issue is that it’s hard to reach payout there. Also even harder to make money just by views or social media sharing. |
|
@Mahesh Wikinut is still there but it does not pay. They accepted anything republished and earning pennies was almost impossible even when they had reduced their payout to British Pound 2.5 from 5. I was paid 4 times total BP 10 within a span of 6 years. The site has stopped paying since 2016 with proper notification to all its members! |
|
My adsense is still active on Hubpages. And squidoo is now owned by hubpages. And now that new sites of hubpages are doing good. I am sure many authors are making good money. For example, As for Wikinut, yes got the idea of they not much into earning these days. |
|
The Fact was; the Owner messed up, and ripped off the writers. Then ran with coin. If he hadn’t been such a dishonest thief that site would be the top of the Internet. |
|
Wikinut doesn’t pay and probably never will again. The Owner of the site hasn’t a clue how to manage a site, and left his mods to do what they pleased. As soon as the site stopped paying the Mods left, except for the one guy, the one I’d warned about publishing Shards… |

Does anoyone know any writing sites besides myLot that actually pay? It seems almost all sites are scams now. I still use niume and it’s okay but I did notice the ‘views’ are not the real views. I wish they were more transparent about it. I want to find sites that are genuine. |
|
Not paying people does not mean they are scam. It just means they don’t have means to pay. People use adblock and expect to get paid from the internet. So sites are genuine but people need to be genuine too. Also LB, Mylot and iwriter are still there if you are trying to write on everyday basis. |
|
I disagree Mahesh. If a site is NON paying, such as Wikinut or Blogjob, fine. But a site like Hubpages is supposed to pay, but pays so little, if/when it’s a waste of key strokes. Any site that promises to pay and doesn’t is a Scam. When it comes to Ad Block… that’s a whole different story |
