Many of the schools have finished their final exams and have declared holidays for summer. Some of the schools continue to run for one more month before giving closing for summer. These schools try to finish some portion related to the next academic year and then will give holidays. They also give children some project work to finish during this period to keep them a bit engaged at home as otherwise they tend to forget whatever has been learnt and everything has to be taught again.

There are many options for children as to how they would like to spend their holidays as there are summer camps which have around thirty to forty different activities and the child has to choose any two activities and one related to sports. The pricing is reasonable too. If they utilize this opportunity to learn something new which they would like to pursue. It would do them a world of good for their life. As it can be a hobby or can be pursued seriously too.

This makes the child more focused, disciplined, passionate, hardworking, goal oriented with the aspect of voluntarily pursuing the same. It is also a healthy diversion from academics as otherwise things get a bit monotonous and mundane with no excitement in life.  What is your opinion on this issue share your thoughts whether children should be just allowed to relax of should be allowed to pursue the above activities.

An interesting incident took place today at my place. A parent who used to come to my place for her child’s education suddenly appeared on a Sunday. The reason she cited was that she wanted her child to improve in English language skills as it is holiday time. The surprising thing was she wanted her child to be taught English language in 10 days. When told it is not that way and will depend on the child and his capacity to understand the concepts she asked the next question.

Is it possible to teach the child English language in a month? I told learning is not a one time affair and is a continuous process which has to be gone step by step. Then she came to the ground and told me to do my best and teach what I could to the child in 1 month as after that schools reopen. The problem with many children is they communicate in local language even in the school.

In the house there is no communication in English as people speak in their native mother tongue. They do not seem to understand that and expect quick fix solutions and would want to learn the language at the speed  how they would get a movie ticket. That is how today’s parents are and expect their children to have patience and learn. Tell me how is this possible?

Honestly speaking, it is impossible for a child to learn a foreign language in a month, not to mentioned in a week.

Unless the child is a super genius, then that is possible.

It takes patience, time and effort to learn a talent or a foreign language.

I am trying to learn Korean language while English is my mother tongue , although I reside in a multi-national country.

Still, it takes time for a mother of 2 to learn like a baby

Agree with what you say. This is what I explained to the mother of the boy who had come here to learn English. But the parents are such that they sit on a high horse and would want his or her child to be a super genius and put pressure on him or her to learn things in a jiffy. If things would have been possible as how this parent wants then everyone in the world will be a Phd. in English.

When we explain these things to them they are not satisfied and want the result fast and swift. These parents are like the child at the toy store who would want the costliest toy even if it is difficult and does not fit in the budget of the parent. But the parents here  know all but still want to achieve the unachievable,  they then get upset when told the truth. As they say truth is bitter and people do not like things which are bitter. Thanks for giving the feedback. Appreciate the same.
