Slokas: Meaning And Its Interpretation – A common mans version of the poets view
Author | Posts |
While Slokas are written by poets in Sanskrit language and its meaning is interpreted in different languages. Here is a sloka about morals taken and interpretation made in English to enable readers to understand and appreciate the meaning. Stanza: Fool is worshiped at home, head of the village in his native village, the king in his own kingdom. But a scholar is worshiped by all at all times and in all places. What one understands by the meaning provided by the poet is that respect is limited by the knowledge and scholarly intellect one possesses. A person who has no or limited brains is respected within the territory of his home, again this in today’s world may not be guaranteed. Similarly a village headman even with his limited intellect he has compared to the what he is supposed to possess for the post is respected only in the territory of his village the same ends once the boundary is crossed and people will dare not to speak up against him in the village. In the case of a king it is limited to his own kingdom because the power the king wields as he is sitting on the throne and the wrath one would face if he disrespects the king and his authority. This can be out of respect or because of fear depending on the kind of the personality and character the king possesses. Whereas in the case of a scholar he is worshiped and respected by all people at all times and in all the places. That is due to the knowledge, scholarly intellect, problem solving ability, awareness of the problems which people of all kingdoms, villages and families and individuals in each of the places faces at different times and situations. This is possible as he is able to read and understand the psychic, worldly, bodily requirements of all the above categories of people. He is a problem solver and a solution provider at all times of need and is available to all people at any time they need him without making a big fuss about it and he does not brag about his capabilities and is ever humble and always willing to be a learner from life. So that the information, knowledge and wisdom so gained can be used for the welfare of the people of the world. No wonder he commands respect from all. Hope the interpretation is clear to readers.
