In Hinduism, sound is considered to be very important. It is supposed to have existed in chaos before the creation of the universe and it is the sound that binds atoms and sub-atomic particles in forms that help create the building blocks of the universe, according to the Hindu thought. Mantra is a form of sound and a compilation of sacred syllables, it is the most mysterious and powerful sound. The path to spiritual salvation by chanting mantras is known as Mantra Yoga. More than any prayer or sacrifice, according to the Bhagavad Gita, silent recitation of any mantra is most beneficial spiritually.

 

Varnas are the purest universal vibrations that manifest as most basic audible sounds, they are the basic structures of sound and later of words. In Hinduism, sound or word which is again a basic form of sound are divided into four types namely Para Shabda which is also called supreme sound, Pashyanti Shabda which is visible sound, Madhyama Shabda which is the middle sound and Vaikhari Shabda or the manifest sound. The rhythm of breathing is called on of the basic human sounds.
