I salute God Shiva whose garland is the king of snakes, whose vahana is the Nandi the bull, who is covered with tiger skin, whoMaha  wears the rudrakshamala, Has a trishula, the japamala, the kamandala, Has a Neelakanta (neck which looks blue due to the poison he drank for the sake of his devotees), Is worshipped as Trinetradhari the God with three eyes, likes to meditate in his abode of Mount Kailash in Himalayas, is called Chandrashekara as he has the crescent moon on his hair locks, is called Gangadhara as he has the river Ganga flowing from his hair locks, is called Bholashankara as he is very gracious and grants any boon if he is pleased with the devotees penance.

One can go on and on as there is no limit to which one can sing his praise. He is the purest of all and exists in all the ten directions of the universe. God Shiva is not a physical body in reference but is a universal conscious body. His consciousness is eternal , all pervasive and the purest aspect of creation. Out of this pure consciousness(Shiva) emanates creation, which is sustained and reabsorbed in the same consciousness after a period of time.

I salute God Shiva whose night it is, in every thing that I see, feel, sense, think, meet, interact  and understand I see God Shiva. In every energy, cosmos, micro cosmos, particle and soul in the universe I see God Shiva. When the knowledge of self, the aatma, the pure consciousness dawns on a individual he himself becomes Shiva. To acquire this state on has to go to a right Guru and surrender his mind, body and soul at his feet  and seek the knowledge and real meaning of God Shiva and Shiva tattva.

To reach Him I keep chanting  the panchakshari mantra – Om Namah Shivaya –  Om Namah Shivaya – Om Namah Shivaya my whole life to attain salvation and rid myself of the cycle of birth and death. Dear readers find the Shiva in You. Today is the best day to start and continue the process vigorously so that all we devotees will get immersed in the feet of God Shiva whose night it is today.

God Shiva is omniscient He is present in all directions and all atoms too. He is one of the three trinity in the Hindu pantheon. He is the easiest of them to please and obtain boons from. He never says no to a devotee who approaches Him and asks Him for something for which he has been praying to reach him. He is also known to come to the rescue of His devotees who cry out for His help when they are in some sort of trouble. If one looks at the image of God Shiva in penance one feels like looking at him without batting an eyelid.

God Shiva is invoked  by different names some of them are being mentioned here. Bhola Shankara – the one who is innocent and blesses devotees who pray and please Him, Nataraja – the dancing form of God Shiva performing the cosmic dance Tandava, Kailasa Vasa – the God whose abode is Mount Kailash in Himalayas and Who resides in His abode there, Chandrashekara – the one who has the crescent moon on his head, Gangadhara – the God from whose locks the chanchal Ganga river flows, Lingaraja – the God who resides in the Linga and is the king there, Neelakanta – the God whose throat is of color blue due the the Hala Hala or poison which He drank for the good of the world and to save His devotees from certain death, Satchitananda Roopa – the God who is always in a happy form when performing penance, Trinetradhara –  the God who has three eyes and who has the power to destroy the world with the third eye when the time comes, Trikalagyani – the God who is aware of the past, the present and the future, Nandieshwara – the God whose vehicle is nandi the bull and who is the supreme God for Nandi the bull. There are innumerable names by which he is invoked and prayed to with different mantras.

It was for this day I tried to be in Banaras and watch the events there. But, I am unfortunate. I could not get His permission. I remained at home as usual and performed the pooja. But, this time the vibrations were very severe in me when I was chanting PANCHAKSHARI. I felt it within myself. It was really a great feeling. If everything goes properly I want to watch the event in Banaras at least in the next year.

Happy to note that you were actually planning a trip to be in Banaras.  It was good to hear about the spiritual effect of the Panchakshari mantra and the pooja which you were able to perform in your house.  Maybe it is decided that you will be in Banaras the coming year on Maha Shivaratri day. I am sure you would have atleast had the darshan on television eventhough this really cannot match the feeling and effect which one feels he is  actually there. Best of luck next year.

In my case I was sharing this post with friends who were happy to read this. I sent it to more than 50 people. That was a totally different experience for me to share this article with many friends especially the one which are on groups who read my articles. Near our house too in the Shiva temple it is a big event even on television I saw Swami Jaggi Maharaj of the Isha foundation where satsang was being held and where even prime minister was present. After seeing that I worked and wrote articles till around 4.00 am taking God Shiva’s name and invoking the Panchakshari. Wish you success on your next year’s attempt.
