Ganesha is the elephant-headed God that is beloved by nearly all Hindus. Regardless of sect, branch, region, or family, it would be rare to find a Hindu who doesn’t have a Ganesh murti or some type of Ganesh symbol. Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles (Vighneshwara). He is the one to pray to before starting any new endeavor.

Often he is also honored first before starting any other form of worship. He also protects homes and cars. It’s not unusual for people to place a Ganesh statue or medallion on the front dash of their cars. Ganesha is also associated with learning and study. It is he who transcribes the Mahabharata while the poet Vyasa recites it.

Whether one is concerned with the successful performance of a religious ceremony, the purchase of a new vehicle, the writing of an examination, the chanting of devotional hymns, or the beginning a business, Ganesha is worshiped. It is widely believed that wherever Ganesha is present, there is success and prosperity. By calling on him, people believe that he will come to their aid and grant them success in whatever endeavors they might be making.

In Hindu temples, Mantras such as Om Gaṃ Ganapataye Namah (“Om, salutation to the Illustrious Ganesha”), are often used to channel Ganesha. Another common form of Ganesha worship is performed by chanting the Ganesha Sahasranamas, which literally means “a thousand names of Ganesha.” Each of the god’s epithets symbolizes a different aspect of his divine personality, and so by chanting these worshipers are able to contemplate his various benevolent qualities.

Offerings are commonly made to Ganesha, such as modaks (laddus). Because of his identification with the color red, he is often worshipped with ruddy objects or substances, such as red sandalwood paste or red flowers. The worship of Ganesha is considered complementary with the worship of other deities, thus, Hindus of all sects begin prayers, important undertakings, and religious ceremonies with an invocation of Ganesha.

Appreciate you joining the panel and putting forth your opinion about Lord Ganesha and also agree with your inputs. Thank you for the same. He is also the destroyer of all problems, remover  of all obstacles, provider of knowledge of all sorts for one to go in the right path, praying him regularly gets one wisdom if done with the right way. He the the commander in chief of the army of Devas. He is prayed in almost most parts of the world and is the most famous among the Hindu pantheon of Gods among people of the world too. He is the provider of Riddhi and Siddhi. He is the elephant headed God. Even Bhuddists pray to him He is called Vinayaga by them.

His name and fame is spread till the far east till Japan from Indian Subcontinent. Having an image of Lord in ones place of work, house or any place of importance where people meet provides the owner of the place and the people visiting good fortune and prosperity. Who would not want success, prosperity, wisdom, knowledge, removal of obstacles. Hence before starting any prayers for any Gods Lord Ganesha’s name is invoked before the pooja.

Yes. He is the Elephant God who removes the obstacles in life. There are about 34 varieties of Ganesha temples in India. Each temple will have a unique Ganesh Idol. The mantra ‘Gum Ganapathi ye Namah’ is meant for him and Laddus (Modaks ) are his favorite.

The interesting thing to know about Lord Ganesh is  a rat. Most of the Hindu temples contain the Idol of Lord Ganesha.  Here in Hyderabad, there is practice of immersion of Lord Ganesh This will be attended by many people . This is the unique event should not miss

Yes agree with you the Hyderabad Ganesh festival is a big event in the annual calendar of events of festivals. It started becoming very famous and gathering more crowds since the late 70’s and the early 80’s. Now the turnout is very huge. This festival also played its part in India’s independence movement. It was popularized by veteran freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in the state of Maharashtra and this movement spread to different parts of the country.

The last year festival I observed one interesting thing, clay Ganesha’s are being preferred more over the painted POP ones and one more good thing is people who visit Hussain Sagar aka Vinayak Sagar are disposing the flowers and are placing the idols in the waters provided near tank bund and are not immersing the idols in the waters of the lake. Thus pollution is reduced to a large extent and recycling is also made possible. This process of creating awareness is going on since many years and has now started being accepted by the people at large.
