The first full indigenous silent film, made in India was “Raja Harishchandra” the legendary Indian king  known for his truthfulness and valour. Dada Saheb Phalke was its producer and director. It was first screened at the Coronation Theatre, Mumbai on 03 May 1913. It was the first screening which took place. It was also made in Kannada and Tamil Language. Dada Saheb Phalke  is one of the legends of  Indian cinema. The famous Dada Saheb Phalke award for life time achievement in the field of cinema has been instituted after his name. The first recipient of this award is Devika Rani. Many famous film personalities like Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Manoj Kumar and many others have received the award. It is given for the growth and development of Indian cinema and consists of a shawl, a Swarna Kamal(Golden Lotus) and a cash prize of  rupees 10 lakhs along with a citation.
