Serum hepatitis occurs due to a virus but it is a different disease when compared to the infectious hepatitis. The virus which particularly causes serum hepatitis seems to be transmitted either through the use of unsterile instruments used in a medical laboratory or either by blood transfusion. It can perhaps also occur due to use of contaminated dental drills.

This condition to develop, takes  about two to five months. Due to this the true cause is often hard to detect and trace. When compared to the infectious hepatitis the onset is more gradual. Infectious hepatitis occurs in children and young adults more commonly, while serum hepatitis occurs in people aged over thirty years of age. As they are compared be having less resistance due to age factor. Immunity among the aged is also comparatively reduced as one ages.

Keeping in view all the above factors it is safe to go to a diagnostic center which is concerned about patient’s health and keeps takes safety precautions like using one time use products and opens the cover before our own eyes. Blood transfusion can be done for safety purpose to protect oneself from blood procured from volunteers known to us of if that is not possible then go to an registered authorized blood bank where quality is ensured.

When we go to dentists make sure the instruments being used on us are completely sterile to avoid the risk of getting serum hepatitis and other diseases. A good dentist would ensure such things are taken care off, but it is always better to reconfirm as we will the one affected in case of any unfortunate error.  Remember it is better to be safe and check than to be sorry and despair.
