The Battle of Pharsalia made Caesar lord of Rome. He then had to deal with Africa which was in revolt. A short campaign ended in the victory being announced in the Senate as “Veni, Vidi, Vici meaning I came, I saw, I conquered. He then returned to Rome and took supreme command. The Republic  was at an end and now the head of the army controlled the empire.

 

Unlike Marius and Sulla, Caesar proclaimed a general pardon for all his former opponents, not one was put to death. Then he introduced many popular reforms for the benefit for the people, but some jealous men who wished to restore the Republic waited for him in the Forum and stabbed him to death.

 

A Second Triumvirate was formed consisting of Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony), Lepidus and Octavius, to decide Caesar’s heir. Julius Caesar is one of the most famous celebrated rulers of Rome in world history and left a great legacy and had a untimely death. Lot of literature has been written about Rome and its rulers. The roman empire hand a number of rulers and lasted for a long time. Leaving behind an interesting trail of history for people in general to marvel at the palaces and other monuments  and historians to study and come up with new interesting details about those times. The people, customs, religion, practices, personalities of different rulers who ruled over Rome. It is also the place where the Vatican is situated and the seat of religious power of the christian’s the Pope also resides and oversees the events in the Vatican and other religious affairs.
