History – World – The Enduring Image – Travelling Exhibition
Author | Posts |
The largest travelling exhibition ever mounted ‘ The Enduring Image’ by The British Musuem inaugurated in New Delhi, India on the 13th October 1997 has been described as an exhibition of not Indian treasures alone but one in which India takes its proper place as one of the major world civilizations which truly it is due to its existence since the ancient times dating back to the vedic and pre vedic times. The artefacts exhibited are items of great antiquity – jewellery, sculpture, plaques, seals, prints, bronze and stone from ancient and historical civilizations, representing the human form. For this exhibition, the logistics of the cargo requirements and the safe carriage of over more than 300 artefacts was complicated. It involved the movement of approximately 16,000 kilos of showcases and 15,000 kilos of artefacts. Special arrangements were made in the cargo hold for the safety of each shipment which is a important piece of history preserved, curated and nurtured carefully with great care. All this required patient handling to see that nothing gets damaged as the same can never be retrieved if lost. India with its ancient history was a right place to showcase the artefacts.
