The Bodhisattva Guanyin is made of Porcelain and is  molded and carved. It is having a height of 91 centimeters and has a strong base with design of crest of waves, she holds the flask and  robes with the left  hand and is seen blessing devotees with the right with a open palm and all fingers curved a little tips facing  to the sky.

The whole statue is in white which means purity and the hair is tied as a knot having a mound on the top and is  from China. From the famous  Dehua Kilns located in the  Fujian province situated in South China. This was during the period of Qing Dnasty found in the 18th century A.D.

Here  Guanyin is depicted  in her typical  form and is  wearing long and flowing robes with beaded jewellery and is holding a flask in her left hand. She stands on the clouds and is supported by crests of waves which are a reference to her home in the Southern Ocean.

Guanyin is a Sinocized, female version of the Indian male Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara. This shows the cultural imprints of India extended well into China at that time as well. Known as the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin is all compassionate.

She is revered as she has the power to save souls and can bestow fertility on those who esteem her. This domestic figure is one of the largest extant porcelain images of Guanyin made at the Dehua Kilns, in the southern China. This place was famous for porcelain works of different kind and was a big booming industry during those historic times.

The Chinese silk route and other trade routes  facilitated and provide a big market all along the route where merchants and traders used to buy it from the kilns and sell it in their respective markets. Porcelain was used even by the emperors, kings and other royalty and was a material much in demand having a huge market.
