The fierceness and the effeciency of these warriors is famous and well known.

This particular Samurai Armour made of Lacquered iron platelets is having   a overall height of 1.25 meters from is from Japan. It is signed (cuirass) Unkai Mitsunao. It consists of  Cuirass and sleeves belongs to the  Momoyama period which is of  late 16th centure A.D. The helmet is of 17th century A.D. The other parts belong to the  18th – 19th century A.D.

The color is a combination of shining metallic color and chocolate black color. The mask at the face is made of metal and is triangular in shape having a bulge in the front where the face of the warrior comes The hands are completely covered and are a combination of metal and silk braid. It covers the hands till the wrists to offer complete protection as gloves were worn in the hands.

The basic form of the armour of the samurai changed little from the Heian period which was between 749-1185 A.D. until the end of the feudal era in 1867 A.D. In this example rows of lacquered iron platelets are linked together with silk braid to allow ease of movement.

The small size of the plates indicate that armour was now required to protect against gun-shot rather than arrows which was the one of the main weapons during earlier times. Armour remained in use throughout the peaceful Edo period too which was from 1804 – 1867 A.D. for ceremonial use. Though made in the ancient style it tended to be lighter for the sake of comfort as well as appearance.

Obviously they were killings and revenge killings which led to a lot of bloodshed as each part wanted to have the last word on the issue and mark their stamp of authority. Which they were very particular about.
