Seated Ganesha made of Schist and having a height of 102.50 cms is from Odisha state of India and belongs to the circa 13th century A.D  and is of dark black green in colour. Here Lord Ganesha is shown seated in lalitasana with his consort on his lap. His shown with five heads also called panchamukha and with ten hands. In his trunk, Lord Ganesha holds an upturned water pot, while his consort grasps a lotus stalk bearing a large bloom. Beneath the throne is an opulent floral spray flanked by small figures of devotees, and elephant and the vehicle of  Lord Ganesha the rat. Ganesha is best known for his fidelity,  celibacy and wisdom, qualities which allow him proximity too Goddess Parvati and other goddesses as an attendant. In this extraordinary sculpture, Ganesha has appropriated some of the key emblems of the great gods: the trident of Lord Siva and the discuss and club of Lord Vishnu. The image is uniquely five headed, a form commonly associated with Lord Siva and indicative of omniscience.
