Falun Dafa is an ancient practice for a healthy body and peaceful mind. It encompasses the principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. It is practiced by millions of people worldwide. It includes four gentle exercises and a sitting meditation. It promotes spiritual growth and inner peace and is easy to learn and suitable for all age groups.

Falun Dafa means “The great way of the law wheel”. It was introduced to the public in the year 1992. Falun Dafa was founded by Li Hongzhi. He and the system have received numerous awards and proclamations from governmental bodies for the benefits it has brought to individuals and communities.

The teachings are the most comprehensive and essential teachings of the practice are presented in the book “Zhuan Falun” (Revolving the Law Wheel). Falun Gong is an introductory text recommended for beginners. These and other teachings have been translated into thirty eight languages. All the books and writings as well as exercise music and instruction videos are available free for the cause of good health of one and all. Books have also been published about this system and are widely read by those interested.

The exercises are as follows:

1) Buddha Showing a Thousand Hands – Using gentle stretching movements, the first exercise opens all of the body’s energy channels, creating a powerful energy field.

2)Falun Standing Stance – It comprises of four still positions that can be held for several minutes each, the second exercise boosts energy levels and awakens wisdom.

3) Penetrating the Two Cosmic Extremes – With its gentle hand gliding movements, the third exercise purifies the body using energy from the cosmos.

4) Falun Heavenly Circuit – By gently tracing the hands over the body, the fourth exercise rectifies abnormal conditions and enhances energy circulation.

5) Strengthening Divine Powers – A meditation that incorporates special hand postures to refine the body and mind. The fifth exercise strengthens divine powers and energy potency.

Some details of the history relating to Falun Dafa. In the 1990s, Falun Dafa became widely popular across China and was supported by the government. Ten crore people were practicing Falun Dafa by the year 1999. But that July, a few leaders of the government of the country at that time launched a violent campaign to eradicate Falun Dafa because they viewed its popularity as a threat to the regime’s control.

Many of those who were practicing this system lost their jobs as they meditated in parks. Others were thrown into labour camps because they spoke of their rights and human rights. Many more were tortured to death because they followed the system and its principles. Not but  the least many of the followers vital organs were removed when they were completely conscious, without any anesthesia.

Many of the readers in the world would not have heard of this system due to suppression. Human rights groups and journalists are not  allowed to visit prison camps and journalists even being assaulted. But on the positive side, slowly this system gained support worldwide and is now being actively practiced by many of those interested in the system all over the world.
