Invasion of Ants…
Author | Posts |
The other day after I made some home made bread and was waiting for it to cool , I discovered there were ants on the cupboard!! It seems like last summer I also encountered ants on the counters. I tired vanilla, I tried vinegar to keep them away to no avail!! So, this year instead of fighting them, we bought some spray that will kill ants and spiders, etc. Do you know of any home remedies to get rid of ants in the house?

I have read that borax will do the job. I just use the ant traps. I seem to always get the teeny tiny ants around the sink and counter. I don’t get them in the cupboards themselves which I am glad. This year like you I just sprayed and have not seen them since. They drive me crazy when I find them. |

@morgoodie, yes and I was surprised when I went to put my bread loaves in bags, the ants were all over the bread!! I hadn’t even seen any prior to that!! So, I’m nipping the ant problem in the bud before they get out of control. So today, I’m doing some deep cleaning in the kitchen!! 😉 |

@JoDee That is what I did. It grosses me out when I have them and there is usually so many of them. I clean everything off my counter and window sill. They are usually crawling up the back splash and in the sink. I cleaned out the sinks and killed all of them that I could find. Then I sprayed the window above my sink and all along the back splash and I have not seen any more. I sometimes get them by the back door. I can never find where they are coming from the window area and it drives me crazy. I try to spray around my whole house outside to keep bugs and spiders out. My dog will take care of the flies in the house so I don’t have to worry about them. 🙂 |

Sissy, on the jar of sugar put a label and on the label, write it as Salt, so that they will not stay on the jar. It works!! @4cryingoutloud
Of course, I am joking, do not poke me. We have lots of ants in our house all the time because we are the family of always longing for coffee. The left over foods will contain ants after a minute of staying in the sink. The ants are really determine to get some food that is why sometimes I wash the dishes immediately to prevent it from happening. About household tips to prevent ants, I do not know anything, but I could research this one, wait a moment, I will research this one for you.

The only product that works is the Terro liquid ant bait. It is extremely expensive, but after using it, my house is free of ants. There will still be ants coming from my neighbors to build nests in our house, but that happens once a year or more. My first small bottle of ant bait lasted me for 5 years, until it is not that effective anymore. |

yeah, it seemed that the ants, milipede, worms, centipede season is back again. These insects had been crawling in ever since a few months back. If I put a slice of bread, biscuit on the table, these ants worked faster than before! Always wipe off the table, kitchen counter top with damp towel to keep the stain off the table. Keep the toast bread in the tupperware if you plan to eat even in a minute. You know, the Buddhist used to say that Don’t kill the ants but what are you supposed to do when those ants attacked your bread???

My Dad and I read that moth balls helped with pest so we bought a box of moth balls and spread it around the outside of the house and actually helped only down side is that it has a old people smell. It also helps with other certain pest like rats and i think roaches. Good luck |

We have a mild insecticide NOTIX which does the job. It is also used for other pests as well. |

Whenever a sweet is prepared we were afraid of ants. We searched for a good way to avoid these ants. My grandma came to my house. When she saw how were struggling with the ants she simply laughed at us. She brought a big plate, poured some water and she placed a bowl and on that bowl, she kept the sweets on a plate. It worked effectively. For sweets and other food items, I am following the same technique now. During the summer season, there is no better way than this. During the summer season, the ants will be gathering around a cool and damp areas and will be forming a queue. What she did was mixed some turmeric powder in a vessel and sprinkled over the floor. To my surprise, there was not even a single ant. She also advised us to use a Gama Xin powder to use in sensitive areas. She is really great. She knows all these techniques. |
