For example, you have a cold, runny nose or flu.

Do you look up for home remedies and practice them?

Do you visit the doctor and take the prescribed medicines?

When I have a flu or runny nose, I would mix cinnamon sticks with honey, boil in 2 cups of water.

Before I sleep, I would mix 1 tbsp of VICKS vaporub with warm water and inhale the minty smell.

My mom used to say that evaporated VICKS helps to clear congested nasal ( nose block) .

My mom used to boil chicken soup which had became my comfort food whenever I am sick.

Now, I learned that these home remedies are quite useful to treat runny nose , although it might take up several days.

I don’t take any anti biotics or flu medicines anymore.

Managed to save money and cure myself instead!

We are not used to take medicine right away when we are caught by a cold or flu. My late mother was the best quack doctor whom we fondly called her. She was really best in providing remedies for any discomfort we may experience when we were kids before.

For a common cold, she served us a hot calamsi. She boiled also water mixed with a pinch of Vicks and she made us to deeply inhale the vapor as we covered our head with a clean cloth. We did it after Angelus or 6 in the evening. If we got a fever, she put a piece of cloth moist with cold water or ice to our forehead.

For a cough, she took several pieces of Mananilla or Lampunaya, a medicinal plant and placed them in a piece of clean cloth. She twisted it until a juice was made and produced a spoonful. She let us drink that bitter taste juice cough remedy.

They say a cold takes 7 days to cure with medicines or 1 week without.  (lol)

I normally apply vicks and that helps me a lot.

@peachpurple  I take medicine for cold as well as use some home remedies. Here are a few remedies that help me:

  • Drinking hot soups. Since I am vegetarian, I go for vegetable soups.
  • Crushed ginger juice mixed with honey for sore throat.
  • Drinking hot milk with a teaspoon of honey in it.
  • Gargling with salt water for sore throat.
  • Vicks vapour rub before going to bed.

They wouldn’t give me any antibiotics last time I had a cold or whatever it was. I went home and decided to drink herbal tea, chicken soup, drink lots of water and gargle with salt water and soak in a warm bath and breath the warm moist air. Got lots of rest and before long I was okay again.

In the meantime I spent time with my wife, watching vintage black and white movies to pass the time and if I got a bit nauseated I would either drink ice cold cola or ginger ale.

i heard that ginger ale is good to keep the nausea down.

Good thing that your doctor refused to give you anti biotic.

It actually kills all your good and bad antibodies.

Might as well cure yourself with those tips and tricks you had practiced.

a quack doctor or not, your mommy is clever to use traditional method for any common sickness, isn’t she?

The vicks trick is very common among the ladies.

As for the cough syrup you had mentioned, now that one I had never heard of.

Instead, my mom used to buy a chinese cough syrup made from herbal mixed with honey and let us take 1 tbsp.

We wanted 2 tbsp because it was sweet and tasty!

I swear by vitamin D pills when I have a cold.  I will take 5,000 UI 3-4 times a day when I come down with a cold and I will suffer with only a minor runny nose.  If someone around me catches a cold, I will take extra vitamin D as a preventative to keep from catching it as well.  I also take it daily in the fall and winter – I went from catching multiple colds each year to maybe catching 2 at most!

I have used herbs as home to remedy am aching tooth. I suffer from dental problems like cavities which bring sensations of pain during the cold season. I use woodash to brush my teeth. I also use salt for the same purpose. Aloe vera is an excellent aid when one suffers cuts to prevent infection and real the wound. I love them for their timeliness and low cost.

When I have a cold or I feel the onset of a cold I make a big pot of  homemade chicken soup!

Ingredients:

(1) 1 WHOLE bulb of garlic (cloves can either be diced or left whole)

(2) 3-4  small to medium washed chicken thighs or 1 washed large cut up chicken breast (skinned or unskinned)

(3) 1 large onion diced (white, purple, yellow)

(4) Two large cans of chicken or vegetable broth.

(5) 1 half stick of butter or 3 tablespoons of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).

(6) A hand full of chopped celery stalks, and chopped up fresh parsley, salt, pepper, a teaspoon of Accent Food/Flavor Enhancer or season the way you want to.

(7) 1 cup of brewed green or black tea

(8) 1 whole squeezed fresh lemon or lime

Cook/ boil chicken parts for a half an hour with butter, then add all the other ingredients. Cook on low to medium heat for an hour and a half or until meat is thoroughly cooked….Serve warm/enjoy!

This homemade remedy for a cold has surely helped me ease my cold symptoms and helped me fight my cold quicker.

Yes, I do.  3 Tbsp Vitamin C ascorbic acid, 1/2 cup honey, 1 pitcher water, grated ginger. Cool the beverage to drink 3 to 4 times a day.

Beef bones or chicken breast with skin broth to the rescue– when you feel hungry but can’t chew and swallow because of blocked nose and nasal discomfort.

Take walks outside where there are many trees and plants around. Morning sun exposure (Vit.D) helps in the absorption of the Vitamin C.

Get well soon!

The best cure, of course anti biotic. It won’t take days to heal the sickness and to kill the virus that causes cough and other bad sicknesses. If there is no available anti biotic, try lemons, squeeze 1 lemon and add one glass of water. If there is no available lemon, boil small part of ginger,Let it boil for 5 minutes, let it cool and drink it,lo, and behold, your phlegm comes out after 3 days drinking ginger twice a day.
