RECIPLAY (V.) ‘ress-i-play

To cook without a recipe, adding a little bit of this, a little bit of that, sometimes producing a triumph, sometimes a mess.

Usage: Ethan was proud of his freestyling way of cooking without cookbooks, recipes, or measuring spoons—even though the results were often inedible. But sometimes his reciplaying produced a masterpiece, which bummed out his roommates, because he couldn’t repeat it, having  had no recipe.

My thoughts:

So then … “reciplay” is one word for the entire phrase used by Chef Ming Tsai for “cooking on the fly”?  I like it!

QUESTION:

Have you ever cooked on the fly and did the dish come out so good that you and/or those you cook for wanted you to make it more often?

Yes, I also do that. I reciplay also. One time, I cooked a dish that has some pickle relish and meat and other ingredients on it and it came out delicious. However, I wasn’t able to take note of how I did it nor remembered all the ingredients I put into it, so I wasn’t able to repeat it anymore.

But I also remembered putting some slices of radish in it. But I am skeptical if I can make it as delicious as before so I never cook it, lest it will be not eaten at home when it turned out not delicious.

I wanted to try Middle Eastern flavors and cooked a soup that didn’t have my common everyday ingredients.  My husband and sons enjoyed it so much.  I can’t remember how I cooked it!  Drives me nuts!!  🙂

if that is reciplay is all about, yes, I had made my own recipes without any written recipes on hand.

I call it dump-all-in -a pot recipe, where I dump in chicken cuts, potatoes, carrots, veggies and sauces.

Makes a yummy stew, really!

My husband insists that we try to keep carrots, cabbage, and potatoes in the cupboard. 🙂
