Who cares about the elderly?!

Okay, don’t judge me just yet. This is a book title, a children’s book. (A little inappropriate, I know) I know it is ridiculous but this book is supposed to teach children social responsibilities, hmmm. Anyway, it actually reminded me of something that’s common to us Filipinos (something that I am proud of). In our country, elderly people are treated with respect and are valued members of the family. They are the ones who give us pieces of advice and make sure that we make the right choices. Although some if not most, are a bit overly domineering, it’s a known fact that most Asian people take care of their old folks. It is even rare to see a home for the aged here in the Philippines. And most of the old folks in homes are the ones who are homeless, abandoned and/or with mental illness. But for a good number of people here in our country, we believe that our parents no matter how old they get, they are still part of the family. They help take care of their grandchildren and they still are part of the decision- making at home. So who cares about the elderly? We do.

I think the elderly are very important and they should be treated with lots of respect and love. A lot of countries don’t worry about there elderly and they live there last days miserably. My heart goes out to elderly people that are suffering without the basic needs and love. The elderly are a link to our past and should be cherished. |

I do care about the elderly o e because my mum is also elderly and i love to give her attention whenever i can because it is paramount that i care for her like she did with me when i was growing up. All of us will one day also grow old, and the question we should ask ourselves is, how would we wnt to be treated when we grow old? Once you answer that question then you wouldnt find it a vid deal to take care if your aging parents. They need our help at such times and ignoring them is like saying you had no parents when you were smaller. They deserve all the loving and care that we can give them at all times. |

@ Anitah Gimase and @Tracy thank you for your responses guys, I really appreciate it. I agree with both of you. The old people’s wisdom also help us with our life problems and not only that, they also are there to guide us in general. We should love them regardless, they need our help and understanding. |
