Reports have emerged that operatives of the
Department of State Services (DSS) and
police have reportedly barricaded the Apo
residence of the deputy Senate president,
Ike Ekweremadu.
An aide to Ekweremandu was said to
have confirmed to Daily Sun that the
senator might be arrested and detained
by the security agencies.
The reported siege on Ekweremadu’s
residence was also alleged by the
spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, in a
tweet on Tuesday morning, July 24
The Senate may not hold its plenary
today, Tuesday, July 24, if Ekweremadu is
detained since the deputy senate
president was expected to preside over
plenary in the absence of Bukola Saraki
who has been asked by the inspector
general of police, Ibrahim Idris , to
appear at the office of intelligence
response team in Abuja over the robbery
incident which took place in Offa, Kwara
state in April.
In a related report, the convoy of Senate
President Bukola Saraki was on Tuesday
morning, July 24, blocked by the
operatives of the Special Anti Robbery
Squad unit of the Nigeria Police, from
leaving his Maitama residence.
The policemen reportedly stormed the
residence at about 6am. and prevented
vehicles from coming in or going out of
the home of the Senate President..
