Tomorrow is Teacher’s Day.

Exam is over, everyone in school is happy and enjoying themselves at home watching TV, playing Android games.

I asked my son what he wanted to give his favorite teacher .

He said that he had drawn a Gargantuar for his teacher.

A zombie?

Plant vs Zombie, his favorite online game.

He took the picture and Whatsapp to his teacher whether she liked it or not.

Of course the teacher said yes.

So, yesterday, we had both made a handmade Teacher’s Day card and glued the Gargantuar onto the card.

He will be giving it to his teacher tomorrow.

I have never had a favorite teacher except a NUN but she had passed away.

Hence, I had never given any gift on Teacher’s Day.

Just sat in the classroom, watching other classmates giving a stalk of rose, a card or a gift to their favorite teacher.

What did you give to your teacher on Teacher’s Day?

Any suggestions beside a teacher’s Day card?

When I wS in Grade school I used to give cards and roses to my teachers.

Maybe a simple note from your son to tell how much he appreciates her teacher will do.

Or if he is into arts and crafts, maybe he could make something like pen holders, organizer or something that his teacher can use all the time.

@
peachpurple  Teachers’ day is celebrated on 5th September in India. It is celebrated on 5th September to commemorate the birthday Of our second president Dr. Radhakrishnan who was an eminent educationist.

Seems like your son has inherited the gift of drawing from you. I love your handmade sketches you share with your blogposts.

In my country, Teacher’s Day is celebrated during December. I believe in the middle week. I am not pretty sure.

@swalia that is my birthday and I have the same birthday with your second President.

Mostly schools are busy during Teacher’s day. They have different games and programs. They also have an awarding ceremony.

The same goes with my country.

During Teacher’s day, I go to Facebook to greet my friends who are a teacher.

@grecy095/

Aha! I have bookmarked my calendar that 5th sept is your bday.

Different country celebrates Teachers Day on different months.

December must be a busy month for the teacher s but it is an enjoyable month to relax since it is closing to big term break.

@swalia/

yup you can say that again!

My son had inherited my drawing skill. I will show you his zombie drawing later. Thanks for your compliments on my drawing!!! Appreciated with a smile!

@jentleheart/

thanks for your ideas!

Yup, maybe next year I will suggest him to make a pencil holder for his class teacher. He had made a handmade card with a drawing.

He wanted to give a fresh rose but we didn’t go to the florist. A lot of his classmates gave teacher roses, he was jealous.

I suggested to make paper rose flower, he said don’t be ridiculous!

Thanks for your share. Appreciated !

@peachpurple I like your son’s idea, though I have no idea what a Gargantuar is. Nowadays the students can just easily whatsapp the teachers? It sounds so convenient! 😀

I always think a homemade card is a good idea. We used to draw cards, and some students organize to sell roses in school too, so we just bought the roses from the students and gave to the teacher.

I remember there was once, when I was in high school, our whole class bought a quite expensive watch to our class teacher, to show our appreciation. But he was angry with us. He thinks we should study hard, and not spend too much money on unnessary stuffs. Moreover, he’d be happy if we just draw him a simple card or greet him happy teacher’s day. Though we were quite disappointed, we understood the good intention of this teacher, as he was not rich and he would not like us to simply spend money.

Besides handmade cards, I think anything handmade by the students are good, such as the paper rose you suggested, and also some sewing or knitting work if the children know how to do.

@grecy095 I will need to save your birthday in my calendar too, I am very forgetful. Perhaps we can have a birth date thread here. 🙂

It is actually discouraged to give teachers gifts in many schools here. In part it could be perceived as a conflict of interest, because the student or his family may be “buying” his grades. I think it is also a matter of recognizing that not every family has the means to buy a gift for teacher, and these children may feel left out if others in the class are presenting gifts.

The usual times of year for gift giving are at the winter break or the end of the school year. Those who do give gifts, often will make it a small token such as a mug or a customized notebook accompanied with home baking or flowers picked from the garden. The is to emphasize the appreciation, and not the monetary value of the gift.

@Grecy Garcia  Wow! So now I will always remember you during the teachers’ day celebrations in my country 🙂

In India, teachers’ day is celebrated somewhat similar like in your country. Special morning assemblies are held. Children wish their teachers and gift them flowers and hand-made cards. Cultural programs are organized and school management plans some movie outing or grand lunch at some hotel for the teachers.

I used to work as a teacher long time back and many of my ex-students are friends with me on facebook. They still wish me on teachers’s day and it’s really good to see that they still remember me after all these years.

In the Philippines, we celebrate Teachers’ Day on October 5 that coincides with the observation of World Teachers’ Day. It is now a law after our President Benigno Aquino signed it. During that day, we free our teachers from their daily teaching task. They are in school, but they do nothing except to be treated as a very important person. We give them a free manicure, pedicure, and hair styling. We offer them their favorite foods. We sing them their most requested song.

The pupils and their parents have prepared a simple but meaningful program to honor the teachers. They entertain the teachers to a song and dance. Some are reading a beautiful poem to their teachers as sincere gratefulness of their teachers’ efforts in making them learned.

@ruby3881 I like the idea of discouraging to give gifts to teachers. Here, I have read that even in kindergartens, the young children keep comparing what gifts they are giving to the teachers, how expensive or valuable the gifts are, etc. Of course, the parents compare too. I think this has already defeat the purpose of showing appreciation to the teachers.

I like the idea of giving some hand-made gifts to teachers, or offer some services like what @nakitakona13 mentioned. Perhaps cooking a good dish or baking a cake to teachers would be a good idea too.

@kaka135 Yes, I think it is important to encourage students to truly appreciate the teacher’s hard work rather than to compete over what gifts Mummy & Daddy can buy with their money. I think competition can be healthy in the right setting, but to me that sort of vying for status is the wrong thing to teach our children.

@nakitakona13 THe effort that children and parents go to in the Philippines is admirable. It truly does seem to be about appreciating the teachers for all they do, and not about status or bribery. More nations should develop this approach, and remember what the day is supposed to be about.

@nakitakona13 so we have different dates celebrating Teacher’s day as in my place in Metro Manila, we celebrate it during December. Yes, you are right. We entertained our teacher and prepare something special.I have become part of this one.

yes you could mark the date, that is my birthday @swalia @kaka135 and @peachpurple.

@swalia we put sampaguita to our teacher before. Sampaguita is one of the popular flowers during some special occasion, especially graduation.
