60th Birthday- Grand Celebration

According to Chinese belief, it is a trend to celebrate a person’ 60th birthday with a grand celebration . 2 of my brother in laws had celebrated their 60ths birthday with buffet dinner at home. All family members and relatives were invited to attend the birthday party with kids and teens invited. The buffet dinner were mostly local food such as steamed fish, stir fry vegetables, grilled chicken, hotdogs, hard boiled eggs dyed with red coloring, birthday cake , fried rice, fried vermicelli and orange juice. Noticed that all the food are old folks delicacies , only one or two are teens favorite dish? That is how 60th birthday is celebrated. Gifts were handed over to the birthday person by hand, usually branded watch, branded wine, branded T shirt. Nobody gives handmade gifts because it is a laughing stock that displays “poor gift”. When my sister turned 60, we had prepared something for her like lavish foods , beef steak, deep friend chicken, beef stew, escabeche, grilled tuna belly, fruit salad del Monte brand, different fruits, spaghetti, and ice cream. We chipped in money to buy a nice gift .How happy mys sister was at the time. The happiest of all are the siblings whose eyes made a non stop looking of the foods, so funny people. |
