"The Kitchen House" by Kathleen Grissom

“The Kitchen House” is a book by Kathleen Grissom. It follows the points of view of two different slaves living on a plantation in America. One Slave, Lativia, is a young Irish Girl who lost her parents on the way to America by ship. Belle is the illegitimate daughter of the master of the house. Lativia struggles to adapt to her new life, and to her new family. She’s trapped between two different worlds. The world inside the “big house” and the one inside the “kitchen house”. It’s an interesting read about a very dark time period her in the USA. It gives a very gripping view on how the slaves were treated, how they lived, how they survived. I would recommend reading it if you enjoy books like this.

A nice and crisp, short review. Looks like a must read on a serious issue of bygone times. |
