It has been reported that many children are so addicted to gadgets. With the modernization, the children are starting to be so different in many ways. The old folks or even the biological parents are into deep dilemmas on how to deal with these changes in their lives. Most children are commonly seen at home or computer shops to play computer games. Thus, they are not active in outdoor activities. They tend to be obese and health is jeopardized because of this lifestyle syndrome. Here are some suggestions to let the children less dependent to gadgets:

1. Engage the children to do extracurricular activities such as learn to play musical instruments, dance class, art class and the like.

2. Enroll the students to sports training activities.

3. Academy to learn school subjects in advance.

4. Tour around the city in visiting some museums, amusement park, swimming in the beach, etc.

For parents, there are so many ways to divert the lifestyle nowadays. It takes a lot of being creative and aiming to set limitations for the children to use modern gadgets. If there is no intervention, it will greatly affect their studies at school. We don’t want these children to be listed as out of school youth.

Your thoughts are indeed excellent but adults should be a part of those activities and devote time. The problem is adults have no time to breathe these days and therefore getting children into activities that would keep them off the digital world still remains a problem.

@bestwriter I totally agree with that. In every activities that wanted to impose for their children. They need to actively participate too. It is a part of being a role model and the children will also follow.

Since these gadgets like tablet, mobile phone, Game Boy, and the like have already been introduced to the kids and they have been using them for quite sometime, these practical couldn’t be easily remove from them. Their time would be totally devoted playing them. Your suggestions may be good, but they may not be permanent.

Well, for me, I would have to talk to my children, to grandchildren. I will them that they may be allowed to keep using them, but in the proper way, in the appropriate time and day. A schedule should be set and should be conformed by them. I know they do understand it, if they do respect their parents, their teachers, and whoever is taking care of

@nakitakona13 You have a point here. The suggested activities are just temporary. We can’t remove the idea of letting the child to stop using modern gadgets. It could still be limited and talk to young kiddies to have limitation. For instance, they can play the gadgets during weekends.

A friend did this to her children. Her children is so attached with gadgets and she said it is her fault, what she needs to do is to let them use it in moderation and with schedule. This is what she did. She talked to her children. She asked them of what can they able to finish if they are attach to their gadget. She allow them to write down those things. Then her children cannot analyze it, they do not write anything on their notes. She explains the meaning of goal and how life can change you if you have a goal. I know their children are just 11 and 9 both boys, but she insists of having goals and how time should be use for valuable things before pleasure. It was a heart to hear talk. Then she sets a schedule. Their tablet were keep in a cabinet of their mom and when they need it they need to ask their mom. The mother will then ask them if they finished their assignment or any activity from the school that are take home. If she confirms it, then they are allowed to use it. I guess she apply strictness to it, but in a friendly manner.

Right now her children is detached to their gadgets, even with their cellphones. They only use it when it is needed and when they ask their parents permission. I am not sure if this could apply to some kids too.

In the family household, we tend to have compromise situation. It is a good thing to set limitations. A friend of yours had her way of letting the children know how to limit themselves on using such gadgets. Thanks for sharing it.

I agree with you @shavkat what you have said is very true many kids are very dependent on gadgets and this is a bad trend. i feel the kids should be more engaged in house chores, and out door games this will keep them bust thus they won’t have time to play with the gadgets, and the other way is also to stop buying kids gadgets below the age of 14 years,  encourage them instead to get involved in school clubs, sports, gymnastics, music classes, excursions and the like make it interesting and that will definitely work in their favor.

@sauda I do think it needs to control and set limitations to children. Since we cannot control the progress of modernization, then we need to take part in guiding the children to do outdoor activities and set rules in using gadgets. We cannot also want to let the children not knowing the modern gadgets. It is also a part of educating them and be responsible.

your friend did the right thing.

Keeping the gadgets away from the kids is the best way to keep their mind away too.

Once they had finished their tasks, they can still use the gadgets but for a limited time, maybe 30 min.

That is how I limit my son.

He is even clever.

He said I will do home work 30 min, you let me play 30 min, then I continue to do homework 30min.

If I finish homework in 2 hours, then you must let me play for 2 hours.

Otherwise not fair.

See kids aren’t stupid either!

yup your tips are helpful,  provided that parents had to participate too.

When I told my son to go outside play football, he said you must play with me too.

When I told my son to rest, don’t focus on the gadget, he said you must shut down your laptop too, otherwise not fair.

So in other words, whatever he does, we as parents had to follow suit too.

If we keep tapping on our laptop and smartphone, we aren’t resting either.

That is a good point too

@peachpurple I do think parents should need to consider the needs of children in using gadgets. Since we cannot make them unfamiliar to gadgets, we just need to limit the options. For some reason, some parents cannot handle it. Because they are afraid of the negative impact of limiting the children with the usage of gadgets.
