I am frustrated and tired – and I just felt the need to vent. Today has been a really tough day, right from the start. First, the alarm didn’t go off on time. So the kids were late getting to school. In the process of getting the kids ready for school, we discovered they hadn’t packed lunches – and that we were out of snacks. Nobody had bothered to mention we were even getting low, and last time I’d checked we had more than we needed! Later in the day I discovered my oldest had been passed over a summer job for which she is perfect – without so much as an interview. I had a difficult conversation with an old friend and discovered he has a prejudice that I never knew about. One that I find hurtful. I installed a Grammarly extension for my browser yesterday, which keeps trying to “correct” me into using American spelling. It also finds a ton of “mistakes” that aren’t mistakes, while missing genuine misspellings. (It just tried to say “aren’t mistakes” is an incorrect verb form, when “mistakes” is a noun in that instance. I’ve been getting tons of those notices all day, and it is really annoying!) I woke up feeling inspired to write. But I’ve gotten nothing written today because I’ve been too busy herding cats, fielding phone calls, trying to correct teacher mistakes that will affect my daughter’s grade, and trying to dig up proof of copyright for old articles that were published on defunct websites in order to send a DMCA takedown notice. I am exhausted, but the work isn’t over for the day. Everyone else is running late – still – so that means I still have herding to do. Getting it off my chest does alleviate the stress. But I’m still tired, and there’s still work to do…

sorry to hear that you had such a bad day. Did you get off the wrong side of the bed, as the usual saying? Oh, it is just one of those day, you will get by as long everything is put back in place. Yeah, kids don’t tell you anything about low shortage of food. They just munch them without you realizing it. The alarm clock didn’t rang? I had encountered that problem too Bus came at 5.45am, I woke up at 5.30am ! Because the darn alarm clock didn’t rang and I did set the alarm! Of course, we were in a hurry to get things done in 15 minutes. Quick shower, stub a Nutella bread into his mouth , get his school bags and off he goes to school. Sometimes, you need to sit down and reschedule your plan when things go wrong. Put those tasks that can be delayed a day or two, set as tomorrow. Get those important tasks done today. As for writing, girl, I wouldn’t be posting anything either if my day is as bad as yours! I would be ranting instead!

@peachpurple Thank you so much for the giggle, Peachy. I needed that! I am just waiting for school to end in a couple of weeks. I am also waiting on monies from a few smaller sources, and then one really big one. I need to buy many things for the family. The first thing is we all need new cell phones. This is part of why the alarm didn’t go off, and it’s not the first time lately we’ve had an issue. The phones are three years old now and were not the latest models when we got them…
@peachpurple some days have only discouraging news but let’s not forget that the sun rises every morning after the night is over @Ruby3881 Don’t mind Grammerly as they will tell you that your content is only 60% original even if you used 100% original content. Grammerly is not reliable in my views or for that matter some other online checkers will suggest you that your content s 100% original even if you copy paste a newspaper news.

@sunil It’s not a plagiarism checker I installed, but a grammar checker. I wanted to test it out and see if it’s worth using. So far it has mostly warned me to take out the unnecessary commas. It’s caught a few typos, but nothing my browser wasn’t already set to catch. I’d say about 80% of the things it flags as possible mistakes are not. Either it’s Canadian spelling (like “colour” instead of “color”) or it’s the app completely misinterpreting the usage of a word in the context. I’m not at all discouraged that the app is saying my grammar is wrong. I know enough to realize that the example they’re showing in the explanation of the error doesn’t apply. It’s just annoying to see all the red underlining. It disrupts the flow of my writing even if it’s just a forum comment 😉
@Ruby3881 I know you register only for testing the ability of Grammarly but I was saying in general way. I know all Commonwealth Countries members prefer writing the way the English write but fast changing to US English because of these ‘red underlining’ I was reading a comment a comment from Queen herself recently where she said American English is not real English. She said “There is no such thing as ‘American English’. There is English. And there are mistakes.” I answered to her “@Queen_UK Great observation!” Chek it here

OIC. Your phone is your alarm clock? No wonder. I thought you were using a digital or analog alarm clock, 3 years old phone isn’t very old. When I got my Nokia N79, it was being used by my hubby in 2009. He gave me in 2012 and I had been using it until now 2016, still in good condition, alarm still rings, reminder still tinkle. None of my phone are new. All are 2nd hand and not the latest model either. Maybe because I don’t charge my phone battery when its battery is at 50%. I always charge the battery when it goes blank, beep beep beep and turn off by itself. Then I charge until 100%. So, this is one of the reason it lasted longer and less problem. Just maybe. Ah yes, since you are looking forward to the school holidays, don’t fret too much on today’s bad day. Maybe tomorrow, everything will be okay. Btw, set 2 alarm clock this time. 10 minutes difference! Cheers
@ruby3881 I am sorry that your day went so badly. I hate when you wake up late and the whole day is in a rush because you are late getting started. It definitely sets a bad tone for the rest of the day. It always seems like the end of school is such a rush each day because of something or another. I have had Grammarly installed on my toolbar before but disabled it as it was annoying to keep having it pop up every time you writes something. I do not think that I would pay for it to get all the other additions to it either. You would think that you could set your specific language and it would be able to follow your way of spelling words. Hopefully, you will not have another day like this.
@sunil You do realize that’s not the real queen, right? It’s a satire account. Queen Elizabeth would never be so rude.
@peachpurple The phones we have were all bought new, but I suspect the reason they were selling them (instead of giving away with a contract for mobile service) is that some were known to be defective. Plus they weren’t the latest models. For the most part, they’ve worked well until recently. But we’ve long had issues with things like receiving multiple copies of the same text, sometimes over a course of hours or even days. And on my phone in particular, I’ve had issues just accessing the phone app when I need it. It’s very slow, and the entire screen will often go dark as soon as I dial. So if I need to dial in an extension number or navigate through an automated menu, it can be impossible to do. I may have to hang up and try again later. Very inconvenient! I do think I might have been letting the batteries charge too well. I always let them run down to 30% or less, but then I’d charge to 100%. I discovered later that you get a longer battery life from staying between 40% and 80%, and not allowing the battery to charge fully after the first time. Yes, we do also have a digital alarm clock but I think my daughter turned it off yesterday. BTW, today my husband woke me in a panic at 6:30 am, thinking it was 8:30 am and the kids were late! He had gotten up 30 minutes before the alarm, and misread the clock, LOL!
@morgoodie It was definitely a way to set a bad tone for the day. And I had not accomplished much the day before, either. Hubby was restless all day and was distracting me from my work. I think that may be why yesterday was so frustrating… I am really surprised at how often Grammarly just gets things wrong. It claims to be such an advanced app, but I think it could really be misleading for someone who is just learning English or who has a poor grasp of English mechanics and grammar.
@Ruby3881 True and that is very much mentioned in her profile and under her account info but don’t you think that what she said holds enough water!
Oh @ruby3881 sorry to hear that you’re having a bad day!! Momma always said there would be days like this, but she didn’t say there would be so many of them!! lol Hope things get back to normal for you, whatever normal is!
@4cryingoutloud It’s going much more smoothly today, thanks. I’m a little sleepy, but managing to be at least somewhat productive.
@ruby3881 Those are heaps to get anyone tired. But there is a thing called moving on and knowing you that must have been easy for you. I too had my share. We have a new maid who is hard of hearing. I wonder if it is a good thing. Just trying to find out (lol) What is your opinion?
I know it would be a temporary way of dealing in a cranky day. Take a quick breathing exercise and compose oneself to do all things needed to be done. After all the daily stunts, you can have a sweet comfortable power nap. Cheer up, my dear friend! c”,) |
