This is an age of Kindle and e-books. Kindle is gaining immense popularity because the books are cheaper on Kindle. E-books can even be downloaded for free from the internet. Other advantage is that they do not take much space in your house. However there are still many people who prefer printed books. Technology cannot replace the pleasures of reading a book for them. What about you? Do you prefer e-books or printed books?

I definitely love to have the book in my hand, but I do like to read an ebook too. I like that you can download them to the Kindle app and the ones I download are free, so that is awesome. It is more convenient when you go someplace and to read them while away from home. I will read the ebooks while I am doing my PTC sites too. Downloading the free ones, I find some new authors that I might not have discovered. But I still like the feeling of the book in my hand and being able to turn the page and the smell of the book is comforting as well.
My first choice is printed book. Because i didn’t just love to read it but looking at at stacked on my book shelf also give me another satisfaction ^^ Another reason why i love printed boom is because i love the smell of it – especially the old and new book. ( i know it sounds weird lol) But i do collect ebook too because its more convinience to bring a lot of title when travelling, but still i will bring 1 or 2 printed book with me.
@haraka We are quite alike! I love not only reading books but also buying and collecting them. I like the neatly arranged rows of books on my shelf. Holding a book in my hand, turning the pages and the smell of the pages- it all adds up to the pleasures of the reading.
@shaloo I for one is also a fan of printed books – I love its smell, the feel of a new book and even the roughness and delicateness of old printed books – nothing compares to them. I love looking at them and browsing thru shelves instead of surfing the net for ebooks. Although ebooks are popular and very handy, they hurt my eye and I don’t get to physically touch and see them like a printed book.
Though I do read online, as we can easily find many good articles or ebooks for free online, I still prefer to read a printed book. I do not have a kindle, so I do not know whether it’d be the same feeling when reading from a ebook reader. I enjoy flipping the printed book, and I still feel better reading it. Moreover, I do not allow my children to use computer much, so I still buy books for them to read, and also read books together with them. I think it’s a good family activity to read books together too. It’s just very different for me when seeing the whole family looking at the tablet device, ebook reader or mobile phone. 🙂 But, I just can’t buy too many books, they are costly and it seems like having too many books at home is not a good idea too, it creates clutter. So, unless I really like to read the book, I try not to buy too many. @haraka I like to have a small library in my home too, though sometimes it creates clutter at home. It’s nice to look at the bookshelves, and just grab a book to read. I like the feeling of this too, and yes, I do love the smell of books too. So, I don’t think you are weird at all. Being in a library is such a blessing. 🙂 It seems like we have many book lovers here – love to smell and hold the books. 😀
@Lee Ka You can consider joining a library where you can get books for all age groups for a certain membership fee. I joined a library a few members back but ultimately I revoked my membership as my house is a bit far off and it was not feasible to go to the library frequently. Buying books online worked cheaper for me. However, you are right about the clutter thing. I won’t say that the books create clutter but space constraint is definitely a problem.
I could go either way on this subject but I guess it boils down to is space in my house or space in the clouds. When it comes to making a choice like that I would simply choose the clouds. Why? I can store more books in that manner and I don’t have to worry about having to move so much stuff if I ever have to move from one place to the next. Also, I can take me ebook with me on any platform. Rather it is on my mobile phone, tablet, laptop or whatever it is always available to me when I need it most. Another thing I like, with having an Amazon account I can download free books for my kindle reader also. So I don’t have to spend a dime on a book unless it’s an author that I truly love to read. I have found some great authors in this manner and ended up buying a few books from them. |
