appeal court ruling in Jos
– The state government, describing the
verdict as a victory for truth, said that this
has paved the way for the governor to
continue with his beneficial administration
The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, July 24,
delivered its verdict that Governor Alhaji
Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state
was duly elected by All Progressives
Congress (APC) member to become the
flag bearer in the 2014 primary polls.
This was coming after four years of trial
on the case, Vanguard reports.
The Supreme Court’s verdict followed an
appeal filed by the Abubakar to set aside
an appeal court ruling in Jos, which
delivered a contrary judgment in favour
of Abdullahi Tanko.
The Appeal Court had ruled that it was
Tanko that was returned as the winner of
the APC, primaries in December 2014,
which prompted the governor to appeal
the judgment to the Supreme Court.
Justice Sidi Bage, delivering the
judgment, set aside the judgment of the
Court of Appeal and adhered to the
Federal High Court’s ruling that returned
Abubakar as the winner of the primary
election.
In its reaction to the judgement of the
apex court, the state government
described the verdict as a victory for
truth, which has cleared the way for the
governor to continue with his quality
leadership for the people.
A statement by Ali Ali, Abubakar’s
special adviser on media and strategy,
said: “We are happy that this lingering
matter, which was a mere distraction, has
finally been laid to rest so that our
governor, who means well for the people
of this state, can extend his people-
oriented service and democracy dividends
to more and more people.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Nuhu
Gidado who was the deputy governor of
Bauchi state had tendered his
resignation. The deputy governor
reportedly resigned on Wednesday, May
23.
Gidado’s departure brought to three the
number of high-ranking officials that had
left Governor Abubakar’s cabinet..
