This is the jackfruit season and I have a tree laden with it. There is not much demand here. As you know what is easily available no one wants.

Do you eat jackfruit and you do not get them there?

Here help yourself  (lol)jackfruit3

@bestwriter  I have not ever had jackfruit and do not even know if I can get them here in the US. What do they taste like? Are they sweet? Juicy? The outside almost looks like a kiwi or a very light green avocado. I would love to have a fruit tree that I could just go out and pick the fruit to eat or to make a dessert with.

@morgoodie The fruits are large and so is the tree. The fruit is indeed sweet. My niece gets them in the US. May be some Indian Mall would have it.

Hmm, never heard of them before.  Can you make juices and jam or jelly from them?

@JoDee Stout

I have not made any jams but I do read here and there about some trying out.

Oh..this variety is not available in India. Here we get jackfruit as a  creeper. It will be very heavy. The slices will be very nice to eat. They will be tasty and juicy. Here we prepare some sweets using jack fruits. There is a sweet which is prepared wit the name PAYASAM  with the fruit. It will be great to  taste. We also prepare a curry  with the husk of the fruit chopping it into small pieces.

@bestwriter, Jackfruit is not an ordinary fruit.Try to goggle this fruit, it contains awesome vitamins, minerals, and all kinds of elements that boost healthy body and protection against bad sicknesses. I also like to eat this fruit. Its seeds are so useful for the brain for it contains linoleic acid good for brain memory. This time it is not a jackfuit season, so if found sold in the mall  the price is above the neck ,LOL. You are so lucky to have planted jackfruit in your yard, so awesome.

@bestwriter  Honestly speaking I have seen it or hear it first time. May be here it is known with other name or it is not available here at all. I don’t know about it so not sure enough. And also by its picture I don’t recognize if I have seen it any time here.

So how is it taste? Sweet like many other fruit. I will try to search on Google if I get some other name of it. Lol.

You have selected a correct fruit. Most of the people do not know about it. Are you from India? But, the fruit you have shown is a different variety. Actually I have seen the jackfruit to a creeper. It will be fully loaded one. A small boy can not lift the fruit.

We prepare varieties of dishes with jackfruit. We prepare curry  with the husk of jackfruit. We also make sweet using jackfruit. We call it Paayasam known by the name CHAKKA PRADHAMAM. . We also prepare Halwa using Jackfruit. There are also kulfis and fritters made using Jackfruit. There are about 145 recipes using Jackfruit.

The Paayasam will be very rich in taste. It is prepared as a first offering to the God during our New Year Festival. A great dish for the God.

Oh…this is one of the sweetest fruits available in India. In the state of Kerala it is richly found. They like it very much. It is cut and there will be some seeds throughout the fruit inside  with a thick layer covered on them in Golden color. Just remove them separately. Remove all seeds along with the thick layeer. These are called PANASA TONALU. There will be about 100 in a good fruit. After it is done the seed is separated by peeling off the thick layer. It is the layer which will be juicy and tasty. The seeds are used for knee pains in Ayurveda.

There are about 145 recipes made using jackfruit. One should not miss this fruit if visits India.

Oh..then you must be aware of the sweetness of this fruit. My father was bringing it on his shoulder as it was very heavy in those days (they were very big in those days. I am talking about 1960s). He was cutting it with a hackle and was separating the seeds.

As they are separated we were waiting eagerly around him. We were having a honey bottle and a ghee bottle ready in our hands. It will be very tasty. People generally eat more than they wished and suffer a lot later from indigestion.

To  counter this effect we were dipping them in Honey and ghee while eating. The taste will be excellent . How do you prefer to eat them.?

@bestwriter, maybe it is not good for your body or taste. There are some allergic to the odor of this fruit.Jackfruit is not also seen here in  our city.It is seasonal. We planted one in our farm .It is different , it is juicy. I do not like juicy, so made jackfruit jam. I like the crispy  one. Jackfruit if not chewed well can cause stomach trouble. It is also a cleansing fruit. When I eat this fruit, I make sure that I chewed well if not my bowel system gets lost, lol.

yes jackfruit is a tropical fruit, malaysia sells jackfruit during the season period.

But this fruit rot quickly.

Unless store in fridge.

Malaysians prefer to have jackfruit fritters or eaten raw
