I just received an email thru here from Mark (something), IDK. he told me that I have some sort of an inheritance from an Engr who bares my last name. Anyway, I know it’s not true. Has any of you received a similar email? Man, I just hope no one is naive enough to take the bait.

Yes, I received the exact same one about three days ago. He says to email him from your personal email account for more details. I deleted it, some people are sending something like that through the mail also wanting you to call them about an inheritance. It is just one big scam.
Yeah, it is a big scam. but a lot still fall for this kind of thing. I really hope people will learn. You know what they say, if no one will fall for it then it will stop (sort of like a supply and demand thing)
Yeah, but you’d be surprised by how many people fall for them. I used to take care of elderly people and you have to really watch them. A lot of them will fall for things like that and you have a very hard time getting them to realize it is a fake. I agree if people wouldn’t respond to them they would stop.
@slayer08 Do you mean you just received the private message about the scam email? Some of us have received it a few days ago. I wonder if someone registered with different username and kept sending the PM again to the members here. I thought support has already taken action and removed the user. Hope the scammers and spammers will leave us a peaceful and joyful place here. 🙂
Yes, I have received it too. He said he is a lawyer to a late Engineer. He used the username of Mark202. In fact, I have composed a post for that. I have posted it here under the title, “Scammer at a loose!” Have you not read it here? Last night, I spent a time looking for his name here. I couldn’t find it anymore. He had deleted his account. The message or email he had sent me in which I quoted in my blog post was edited by the admin and put some ellipsis dot to delete the name of the scammer, the name of the Engineer.

I should have reported the email to the admin but I didn’t. I hope who ever is sending that mail gets blocked out from every site he or she visits. And I really hope no one will take the bait.
No. Earlier I was receiving such emails very frequently. But not now. This is to embarrass a person on the internet. There are even emails that inform winning about a lottery. A month back I have received such an email. Why they do like that? Is there any website working for this purpose. There are sites that pay for email reading. Similarly, I hope this is an email received from such site. |
