When I was in College, I was very much close to my (physiology) lab group. We always hang out together and we had so much fun just being together – telling each other jokes, going places. etc.

One Summer, I lied to my mom about attending a best girl friend’s birthday party that’s out of town. The truth is, I was with my lab group about to hit the waves in 2 hours tops. I haven’t been to the place where we are going. All I know was that I am going swimming with my friends until the sun comes down.

So there we went.

We barbecued pork, fishes, and vegetables and made even made camp on the beach. By 5 PM in the afternoon, a thunderstorm broke. And we have to hurry out of the water and back to the cottage we rented. Halfway through our walk, the storm grew stronger, so we are already soaking not just with sea water but with rainfall as well.

By the time we reached the cottage, we decided we needed to rinse of ourselves so we won’t catch and cold. We did so all together on a nearby well. The skies darkened further and then a lightning bolt hit the coconut tree just a meter away from where we all are. That was scary.

When we realized the storm clouds are still brewing another strike, we ran back to the cottage even before we get to rinse off the soap on our skin.

And then the lights went out.

And the storm grew stronger still.

All of a sudden we are afraid the storm will blow the roof of the cottage.

By 11 PM, it went quiet and still and the storm already passed.

Not wanting to experience another storm, we decided to hit the road.

By the time  I reached home, I have a swelling on my ankle and a few bruises to the knee. I remembered I stepped into a hole on the beach while we were walking by the shore. It was a 3 ft hole that’s covered with sea water.

My mom looked at me and laughed. She told me that she knew I was lying when I told her that I would be attending a party. And that it was “karma” that got me all injured up and scared. That was terrible of her. lol. But I guess she was right.

My fondest or funniest summer was in 2015 whilst visiting New York. Anyway, while in Jersey, we all got on a train, my husband, myself and two kids. Never knew we were not meant to get on that train, I got in with my daughter, while my husband and son looked on. Before we could say, wrong train, the doors shut and we moved. I panicked, but held my tears because I had to be brave for my daughter. Well, once it stopped, we got out, asked for the next one back, and then we hopped in and went back to where we all started the journey. It was such a huge relief for all of us being first timers in that city.

lol! I can only imagine the look on everyone’s (your family) faces. Your husband and son looking at you with confused eyes. These things happen and it’s human nature to make mistakes, right? Good thing, you realized you were on the wrong train and still get back to your husband and son. at
