When we were children we were playing different games not going anywhere but remaining in and around the areas of our residences.

I was playing Colourman, Pittu, lock and key, Hide and seek, Hopscotch, and the game like King- queen- General-Soldier. Pittu was played with stones. One used to keep one stone over the other and ball is given to hit it. Once, it is hit the other will take the ball and do not allow the players of the opposite team to rebuild it. A very funny game .Hopscotch was another game generally played by ladies. Even then I was playing this game. This was strengthening the knee muscles.Hide and seek another game of interest. One has to hide somewhere within a count from 1-10. As the count is over the person will search and locate the boys hiding somewhere within  the premises.

These are all the games meant for the children which were  not connected with any budget or daily expenditure even. They were all safe and got a quick finish. The children were enjoying a lot playing these games.

After the development of Technology and Information Technology, in  particular, these games have lost their significance and they are played no more by the modern children. They are confining themselves to their houses during holidays watching movies, playing online games on the Desktop as well as on their smartphones resting on their beds and sometimes not leaving and hearing their elders.

Playing with wooden toys was another feature of our childhood and later it shifted to soft toys and now only to soft toys, electric and electronic gadgets.

Do you still think the modern children are really enjoying their games and children moving in a social atomosphere?

Modern children have totally lost when it comes to put door games. Technology has literally taken over the kids of nowadays. No one wants their kids playing outside and mixing up with the rest of the children from the neighbourhood. And this is getting out of hand. All that do is seat infront of their computers and tablets playing games No time to stretch their muscles with the games that you have mentioned above. I think that’s why there are so many obese children around us. They don’t exercise like we used playing badminton that was a good way of shedding off days and cutting down calories. Something has to be done to make kids do what kids are supposed to do and not be the grown ups that they are not.

The role of parents become very important here. They should understand the importance of allowing children move out and mix with others. They should discuss this issue among themselves in the colony and invite children  to play games. Otherwise, they will repent in the future. The children as you said are not playing and spending their time  sitting before computer or tablet. Added to this they do not prefer to eat at home when mother cooks but outside. They like to eat Pizzas and Burgers which add up only some extra pounds and fat in their body. The drinks they prefer is Thump Up, Coke Drink et. which are very harmful to their teeth also. By the time they get 40 they become fat and feel difficult to walk. Their teeth become loose and the hair turns into grey. They do not have the  energy to withstand these unwanted and invited problems.

I agree that it really depends heavily on the parents or caregivers. I am not sure if the children really enjoy themselves with the electronic gadgets or television programs, as nowadays many kids like to spend time with these two.

I still bring my children to the park and playground almost every evening, so they get to play with the other kids in the neighborhood with the playground set, some games, badminton or football. As a stay at home mom, I get to know many neighbors at the playground too. I agree that there are not many moms bringing the kids to the park, some might complain there are many mosquitoes or it’s quite dirty out there, but there are still parents bringing their kids to the nature.

I think my children are enjoying their childhood, as they are playing all day long at home, in the yard or at the park. We don’t really go elsewhere, but they can find lots of things to do just in these areas. Anything can become their toys, and they can just set up any games they wish. By the way, we are no TV home and the children are allowed very minimal computer time since they are still young. I wish my children learn to do things and have more fun with their hands, legs and body, not just sit there like I used to be. 🙂

I really appreciate you for not keeping the TV at home. This is one of the worst gadgets that spoils the children and lays the foundation for indiscipline.

Another good point is that your children can play with anything. Anything can be their game tool. This is what required in the children and wanting more in the children of modern days.

We should also teach children to carry some small weights and also ask them to dig some soil etc., which will give them physical strength.

Your observation is right. They do not have muscle or bone power. They are becoming obese and are prone to various health problems easily.

Even now there is time for the parents to rectify themselves in bringing up their children. They are but doing this.

Can you suggest any remedy for this? or any other alternative way of tackling this problem?
