Rajaraman K wrote a new post, 7 Reasons why laughter is the best medicine 8 years, 2 months ago

Now you have more reasons to laugh. What are they? Read on. We have all heard the phrase, ‘laughter is the best medicine’, but do not know what the arguments are for it. That is why here are the seven rea […]

    • You made me laugh when I read Number 5 because it reminded me of when I was little and my mom always telling me not to frown because my face would stay that way. The thought of my face having a permanent upside down smile was really scary! The thought now also makes me laugh. Laughter is universal. 🙂

      • Yes. Even my mother used to say that very often. Those were the days we understood less about things said and done. As we grow old, we understand many things. Life is strange is it not?

    • When you think something is funny, you laugh. But do you know why and how you laugh? This part of the lesson addresses the science of laughter in terms of how the brain reacts to an external stimulus that is funny.

First of all, laughter is not the same as humor. Laughter is the physiological response to humor. Laughter consists of two parts — a set of gestures and the production of a sound. When we laugh, the brain pressures us to conduct both those activities simultaneously. When we laugh heartily, changes occur in many parts of the body, even the arm, leg and trunk muscles.

It is a solid fact that nothing balances your nervous system faster than communicating face-to-face with another person. Add laughter to that communication and you have a powerful antidote to stress, anxiety, pain, and conflict. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert.

With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health.

      Laughter Benefit
      Laughter relaxes the whole body
      Laughter boosts the immune system.
Laughter triggers the release of endorphins
      Laughter protects the heart.
      Laughter burns calories
Laughter may even help you to live longer.

Rajaraman K wrote a new post, The Concept of Health 8 years, 3 months ago

Health is a superior concept that includes aspects of physical, mental, intellectual, social and spiritual, all in close contact and dependence, which contributes to our well being and balance. Living in the […]

    • I feel that health is the most important thing in life. we run for money but we forget to pay attention to what our body has to say

    • Everyone must have the concept of health from the very beginning because health is wealth and health is God’s blessing on earth. ‘Health’ is an elusive word. Most people who consider themselves healthy are not. And many people who are suffering from some known disease, may be relatively healthy.

Health is a concept which does not merely relate to the absence of disease, of healthy working of organs, or having good thoughts. Health is a holistic concept. It relates to a person as a whole. Not just the person you see, but also the person you ‘feel’. Health is a tri-une of three parts:

This is probably the easiest to define and yet it is sometimes the most difficult to understand. Physical health can be defined as a state in which all the body parts are anatomically intact and are performing their physiological functions perfectly and harmoniously. It is a very simplistic definition, but it basically covers everything like:

All the body parts should be there
All of them are in their natural place and position
None of them has any pathology
All of them are doing their physiological functions properly
And they work with each other harmoniously

    • Yes everyone in the world takes ones health for granted since childhood. The concept that our body is a machine and has to be taken care well is not taught and highlighted. And this leads many to neglect their health by taking the same for granted. Till the time they land into some health issue or the other.

They seem to realize the value of their health only after the damage has been done and it is irreversible. Till that time people feel such things happen to others and not to me as I have never had any health issues in my life till now. This careless attitude is what is inviting health problems to oneself. Many also neglect or never care the messages which our body gives that something is really bad with our body and needs to be attended to. Till the time it crashes they keep continuing with it. A well written article to be read once in a few days by all.

Rajaraman K wrote a new post, 5 Foods that Increase your Blood Sugar 8 years, 3 months ago

As a rule, all food that tastes sweet contains large amounts of glucose, which means it has a high glycemic index. Here are five foods that increase your blood sugar levels, a fact that is really important if y […]

    • I am not a diabetic and just a couple of days I got my report and noticed I have low blood sugar. I am a small eater and that is what my doctor says could be the issue. I am asked to eat several times in the day

    • It is very important to be health conscious to avoid bad sicknesses, but sometimes human as we are we cannot avoid temptation to eat foods that are against the body.It is bad to eat foods like what you mentioned here if having a diabetic family members in the past for that could be hereditary if not through abuse.

    • Enjoy all foods in moderation but if you are already diabetic, avoiding certain foods is something you must do. My late father was diabetic.

    • First I tell you what is blood sugar and from where it reachesin our blood. Blood sugar or blood glucose refers to sugar that is transported through the bloodstream to supply energy to all the cells in our bodies.

The sugar is made from the food we eat. The human body regulates blood glucose levels so that they are neither too high nor too low – maintaining a condition of stability or equilibrium in the blood’s internal environment (homeostasis) is necessary for our bodies to function.

The use of the word “sugar” in “blood sugar” is a colloquial term, a misnomer. Glucose, one type of sugar, is the one in the bloodstream that feeds cells and matters to us.

The human digestive system breaks down the carbohydrates from food into various sugar molecules – one of them is glucose, the body’s principal source of energy. The glucose goes straight from the digestive system into the bloodstream after we have consumed and digested food. Glucose can only enter cells if there is insulin in the bloodstream too. Without any insulin the cells would starve.

After we eat, blood sugar concentrations rise, the pancreas releases insulin automatically so that the glucose enters cells, as more and more cells receive glucose, blood sugar levels come down to normal again. Excess glucose is stored as glycogen (stored glucose) in the liver and muscles.

    • Very informative piece. Dental health is aproblem to many people including myself. I always fond it so hard to leep visiting the dental clinic for check up because of the pain that is assosiated with it. I once had a problem with my gums I used to bleed all the time whenever I brushed my teeth at the time I was still a young kid who did not understand much about dental health. I had no idea that I was a suffering from what you ha e mentioned above, to me it was just a thought that I could ha e brushes my teeth too hard so I didn’t make much out of it. It went on for some time then it stopped I It’s own didn’t take any medication, but I remember went I went for a root canal my doctor mentioned something about my gums and it was from that time my gums stopped bleeding. I guess he must have treated it then though I couldn’t have known. Something new has been shared and noted.

    • Teeth are the most important part of mouth because teeth add charm in human personalty to a greater extent in practical field but teeth care is must to save it from decaying because teeth is made of pure calcium and phosphorus.

As you know every person (who has their natural teeth) has different shape of the teeth. Usually they can be different, can have flares and breaks or any other difference. But as a whole every smile has its shape. And as it turns out that shape can say quite a lot about you.

If you are calm or energetic, shy or care free. Get out a mirror and check your own teeth and see if they can tell you anything about who you are!

To some extent, our teeth function as a business card. They can indicate social status, hygiene habits or health conditions. For instance, we tend to associate a pearl white Hollywood smile with wealth, care, and health. Yet, our teeth expose even more information about us like age, gender or personality. They can also exhibit certain personality traits and significantly impact our overall impression.

The physiology of our teeth reveals our “dental identity.” While the central incisors of young people have rounded corners, the same teeth are rather square and short in older persons.

Furthermore, the lateral incisors of women are rounded at the end and a little shorter than the central incisors, whereas men’s lateral incisors are longer and more square. Interestingly enough, your canines can tell somebody whether you have an aggressive, passive or pushover personality, depending on their shape.

The color of our teeth has a big impact on our perceived attractiveness. Bright, white teeth make us look more successful, more employable, and more appealing. A study conducted by oral hygiene company Oral-B found that white teeth can make you appear five years younger and increase your attractiveness by 20 percent.
