Earth Quakes .. Just some Natural Phenomenon, a Punishment, or a Test of Faith?

My name is Mars (just a nickname by the way), and I live in a far province in the Philippines. Almost four years ago our province got shaken by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. A lot of residents lost their homes, belongings, and even their connection to the outside world because of no electricity, scarcity of food and water. Some have lost their lives..

The most noticeable thing though is that the most wrecked establishments are the hundred year old churches. Many non catholics have declared that God had punished us because the most crimes committed are from the most care free religion. Of course I couldn’t agree with that. Religion has nothing to do with a person’s choice of committing sin. But it did stir up some thoughts in me..

While scientists and experts might tell us that the Tectonic and what knot Plates will have to move every once in a while, for whatever reason, with all that we see around us, who could blame us.. me, for thinking that all these may really be some sort of punishment?

Admit it. We all know this world we live in isn’t as wonderful as the world our parents had wished us to see. We’ve come to grow knowing different sorts of conspiracies, lies, corruption, drugs, human trafficking, inequality, racism, bullying, murders, suicide, wars, terrorism, issues with abusing and destroying the planet, global warming, and all else.

Humans have done a whole lot to deserve more than just earthquakes (but not all). But still, wrecking the churches doesn’t necessarily mean God hates us.. Maybe, just as my mother had said, that this could be just another test of faith. As we live in a generation full of people idolizing just some other people, maybe that God just wanted to see if we still remember about Him and believe in Him..

Few days ago, just July 6, 2017 another strong earthquake around 6.5 magnitude have shaken our neighboring province, giving our own province an unstable supply of electricity because we get our source from them. Another set of destroyed things and the crying.. And experts fear for the upcoming “Big One” to hit the largest continent in the country.

As for me, I see it as all a natural disaster, punishment and test of faith altogether. Maybe those plates have slept a long while now that they needed a stretch, and making it happen in such a time that man needs some punishing for all the ugliness we’ve caused and bringing us back to our faith.
