I started this forum because I am fascinated by where people are decended from and how they connect and identify with their own ancestry. I
    Am a descendant of
multiple tribe….as I am deacended from ancestors in the Philippines, Ireland, Spain, France and the Cherokee tribe of North America. I have to admit that growing up and being of such mixed blood I did not know what I really identified with, so I considered myself to be just part of the melting pot that is America.

The first time I truly identified with being Filipino happened when I read a book called “When the Elephants Dance by Tess Uriza Holthe. Tess and I have a mutual friend and it was through this friend that she sent me a copy of her book (available at Amazon) . Tess is a gifted writer who is deeply connected with the past of the Filipino people and where she comes from. She weaves an intricate tale set during the WWII occupation of the Philippines and throughout the story she shares the old stories and legends that have been handed down for generations. At the very end of the book I found myself cheering and identifying with the awesome Filipinoness of the main character because I finally understood what it meant!
Since then I have embraced and researched all of my heritage and it seems there is always something new to learn about where I came from.

    • My ancestral background is that of Spanish, from my paternal grandfather, and Chinese blood, from my paternal grandmother.

From my maternal side of the family, Indian heritage, from my maternal grandmother, and pure Filipino (I think), from my maternal grandfather.

At the moment, on my husband’s side of the family. We are tracing back his roots on his grandfather’s side. We have done around 5 generations, as of this time.

They always celebrate their yearly reunions wherein they present each members of their family.
