India biodiversity a small overview
Of the twelve mega biodiversity regions in the world India is one. India has a unique combination of living species, habitats and ecosystems, which together makes it a biodiversity rich country in the world. India is the seventh largest country in the world and Asia’s second largest nation. India has some of the world’s most bio diverse regions. It hosts 3 biodiversity hot spots. The Western Ghats, the Himalayas and the Indo Burma region. A biodiversity hot spot is a biogeographic region with a significant reservoir of biodiversity. India accounts for 7.8% of the recorded species of the world. India’s share of crops is 44% as compared to the world average of 11%. India also has 23.39% of its geographical area under forest and tree cover. India’s biodiversity hot spots are understudied and a lot of time, energy and research needs to be done to explore the same. Will keep the audience posted of the new developments.
