Chili is good for your health

The spicy story

Ghost chili also known as Capsicum Chinense and it has neither a spelling mistake nor it has got to do with Chinese. Ghost chilly is considered as one of the hottest variety in the world. It is cultivated in the Northeast regions of India and goes by various names such as Naga chilly, Bhut Jolokia etc. Would you believe if I tell you that a small piece of matured ghost chilly is able to bring tears to people who eat spicy dishes? The Ghost chilly has different colors ranging from green, light yellow and red.

Chili for use of culinary

Both the dried and fresh ghost chilly is used in cooking. The fresh chilly is often used in preparing chutneys and used for making other dishes.  Apart from its hotness, many people find the aroma of this variety of chilly very appetizing. The dried powdered chilly is often used as a spice in cooking, especially in preparing non vegetarian food like fish, chicken etc.

Surprised? But that is true the hotness in chili comes from the chemical called capsaicin which has ability to improve blood circulation and as capsaicin increase the body’s metabolism which can be effectively used in controlling body weight. Ghost chilly is also rich with vitamins and other necessary minerals including potassium, magnesium, iron etc which improves the immunity system of the body. Besides eating chilly regularly helps increase tolerance of body pain as the chilly releases endorphin that brings ‘feel good” factor in human.

 

Also known as sweet leek, it appears somewhat similar to grass. The leaves are flat, narrow and long. A tubular narrow stem arises from the center which produces small white flowers towards the end of May- July. It is used as a condiment in many different parts of the world such as in China, Japan and specific parts of India.

    • I could never eat hot foods!! I couldn't even stand if I had to much pepper on my food! Now I eat jalapenos faithfully!! I have arthritis in my back and when I eat jalapenos or use cayenne pepper in my food, my back doesn't hurt as bad. I was amazed, but it really does work!! ;)
