Why Healthy Foods become even more important in rainy seasons

When the rains come after a long spell of tough heat, we feel elated to feel relieved from heat and humidity and the farmers and many others too feel good that they will have more water overall for many water uses.

The fresh air, the cool breeze look so great. The mornings become better and things look so cool.

Yet with rains come more germs and diseases too. Apart from more germs and risk of water borne diseases as well as cough and cold, another vital system of ours too comes under big stress.

This is our digestive system.

Yes, although we feel like eating those fried snacks along with sweet delicacies like jalebis, gulabjamuns (and similar sweets outside India), our digestive system can face increased stress with such stuff.

This is because during rainy seasons, our body system and metabolism is impacted and as per research also, it needs things that comfort it.

Fried Foods, heavy calorie foods, cold drinks, even more tea and coffee can be unsuitable.

Instead, we can have processed Fruit chutneys, like those of Mango and Raw Papaya. We can also use ginger and garlic more.

Ginger Tea, Lemon tea (not very chilled) can be good.

We can have more of Bitter gourd, Bottle gourd, pumpkin, which are comforting foods.

We ought to use more of black pepper, raw mango chutney, or drink and these can act as good digestives. Green tea of all sorts helps, though I think excessive use can be counter-productive.

Finally, dairy products like Milk and cheese can be taken in moderation and be avoided in dinner. Cakes and chocolates are also things that need to be moderated.

I know its a tough call, but as I have felt in my own case, this is preferable to avoid indigestion and keep our digestive system happy.

    • In rainy season all over the world heavy food needs human body due to more coolness in body and to cool down the internal coldness heat is must that we can take from healthy foods as meat, chicken gravy...we must use it.

We are so good to welcome the monsoon showers after experiencing the scorching summer heat. But monsoons do bring certain health risks. Our body is more susceptible to health issues in rainy season, because monsoon reduces the immunity power of our body. Our body constantly gets affected with allergies, infections, indigestion problems, so we must keep our body resistant against such diseases.

The humidity in the atmosphere is usually high in this season; as a result the body’s digestive capability goes down. The important point to keep in mind is that you must avoid oily food, street food or any type of food that is prepared in bulk else there is a possibility that it upsets your stomach.

I think talking healthy foods in rainy season we can get these benefits as:

Eat fruits as they help you restore energy. Apples, mangoes, pomegranates, and pears are best suggestible. Avoid watermelon and muskmelons and also goosing on too many mangoes may cause pimples.

Have medium to low salt food and avoid heavy salty food as they are responsible for high blood pressure and water retention.

Eating watery foods like lassi, watermelon, rice, muskmelon creates swelling in the body. So, better opt for foods which are drying in nature like corn, gram flour, chick pea etc.

Foods such as brown rice, oats, and barley are the best foods one could have in this monsoon.

Body’s immunity can be increased by adding a dash of garlic to the soups, sir fries and curries you intake.

Opt for yogurt, curd and almonds in your diet instead of milk. Drink only boiled and purified water to protect yourself from harmful germs and drinking plenty of water keeps your body hydrated.

    • Rainy season brings pleasure and happiness with the drops falling from heaven. The season that attempts bringing a cool climate is always commendable. But with very relaxing ambiance, you can also be affected with many different diseases.

Thus, you need to be really cautious about the food you are consuming. Physicians and experts from the medical field would always ask you to stay away from the street foods. Go for very healthy food items such as soups, boiled vegetables, multi-grain bread etc. During monsoon since you get a cool climate, there will be a tendency to drink tea or coffee randomly. Along with tea, you also must be longing for some fried items.

    • It’s better to go for dry food during the rainy season than that of wet as fungal infection and bacteria can grow pretty fast in the wet food items.

You can consume food such as oats, chickpea, corn etc during monsoons to keep yourself healthy and sound throughout the season. The watery meals are really prone to cause bloating among many people.

Try not to have sea foods like fish, prawns, crabs etc until and unless they are fresh. As it is the breeding season for these creatures you may end up having stomach infections or worse food poisoning. It is always good to choose for vegetarian diet during the rainy season.
