Understanding & Overcoming Shyness

Being a shy person is not inherited from the family itself.

Shyness can be a crippling self defeating habit that bring

disadvantages to a person personality, behavior and his

future.

What is Shyness

Shyness is an emotional behavior that he feels

uncomfortable with the people around him besides his own

family members.

He feels timid and awkward to approach other people,

nervous and insecure to perform a simple task when others

are watching him, becomes speechless when someone ask

him questions that he can actually answer them.

Shyness is also one of the characteristic of a persons low

self esteem, lack of confidence, feeling small and refrain to

 involve oneself into any activities.

Inference

1. Often interferes in social parties, gathering, meetings and

 reunion dinners.

2. You are unable to have a good time communicating with

other guests, relatives and friends.

3. You are unable to entertain and socialize with others.

4. You are unable to perform the tasks that you are capable

 of.

5. You are unable to display your talents to your audience,

teachers, superior and clients.

6. Completely cut off any future social gatherings.

Mistaken

Arrogance. The negative effects of shyness is when

someone mistaken your shyness for being arrogant.

Being shy, you will keep  keep quiet throughout the

 conversation.

Aloofness. Keeping a distance between yourself from

others. You would rather stand or sit alone in a corner.

Shyness keeps you away from people, fear of being judged

negatively and keeping silence which some would

presume you as being rude.

Dislike. When you are unable to reply to questions,

someone would misunderstood you for disliking him/her.

Generally, silence means consent but sometimes it is

 disagreement.

Hence, people often misunderstood your silence.

In order to overcome shyness, it will take time and effort,

a gradual process that cannot be forced.

Here are tips that I had overcome my shyness:

1. Family members

The closest people around me were my family.

My younger brother and my parents knew about my

shyness problem.

However, it was much easier to talk about my problem with

my younger brother than my parents as he is younger than

me by 2 years.

We are much closer with a small age gap.

I felt comfortable to blurt out my shyness problem to him

and he had given me some tips to overcome this problem

with his MAN opinion which did help me in certain areas.

2. Talk to best friend:

Yes, talk to BEST friend not just friends.

A best friend is someone whom you can reveal your

thoughts and secrets whom he will not leak out to others.

 Shyness is an embarrassing problem.

Others will take advantage of your shyness weakness and

destroy you.

Being open to your shyness problem with your best friend

may help you to overcome it if your friend is willingly to

help you to walk out of it hand in hand.

Simple advice does not help much.

Physical actions do make the difference.

A good example is when my best friend showed me how

she initiated a conversation with teachers and strangers

while I stood beside her.

I learned how to open up my mouth then.

3. Talk to teachers whom you can trust:

Sometimes, you could trust your favorite teacher or counsel

or advises that could guide you to the right path.

Although some advice may sound so good to be true, you

should give some thoughts about it and put in some

confidence in yourself to improve your sociability and

performance in school academic or sports.

My teacher put me into a group of talkative students that

I had learned to speak up my mind since then.

    • I am an entirely different person. I am an introvert by nature although I am in a profession that needs me to talk a lot- marketing.

      • oh you are working in a marketing line?
No wonder you can write so well , looked professional.
It s good to have a nature that is able to talk freely without any worries.
A person with the ability to strike up conversation with strangers anytime, anywhere is something that I can't do.
        Kudos for your strength

    • I often wonder how many people, who think they are shy, are actually introverts? There is a huge difference - which is probably why an avowed introvert like @sunil or I can also be quite good at speaking in public.

Great suggestions here, @peachpurple. And I love your sketch!

      • thanks for your compliments!
Yup I love drawing cartoons, always try to include in my posts.
You are an outgoing person, who dares to speak your own mind. I salute you for being brave rather than shy.
        I am a shy person.
But I learn to be brave after I started to work.
I had been bullied at work, back stabbed, learn to speak out.
Now, I can meet anyone and speak without any fear.
Experience is the key to success

    • When I was a young teenager, I was so shy and my shyness deprived me of my happiness. What I did when I enter college, I joined many organizations and during my highers level in college, I was the president of the many organizations like ROTARACT CLUB , Y'S MEN'S CLUB INTERNATIONAL and many more that shaped and molded my personality.

      • Me too.
When I was a teen, it was hard to be popular in school.
        I didn't attend college.
I had to work, 3 jobs per day.
That is how I started to change my personality.
Had to be brave, social, able to strike up conversation in order to get my work done.
That is when I had came out of my tortoise shell

    • Shy people are resulted to be being nibbled by the bubblers. They can't break fee because of rejection. I'm most cases, these nibblers are bullies in nature. They tried to break the innocent souls. In fact, it is a part of showing arrogance to others. The real reason, they are afraid to be tagged as insecure of themselves.

      • wow so profound.
Yup shy people are often being bullied by the stronger ones.
Hence, they became fearless when they are used to bully the weaker ones.
        Shyness is a negative effect.
        Should overcome it

        • I had once a timid person. I overcame the shyness because it gives set back to my performance in everything. There are times that I felt so helpless. A sudden challenge came when someone bullied me and to the extreme of feeling hopeless. But then, I realized that I am much lucky to this person.

    • @peachpurple - You have done a great job here. Hope many will share this blog so that more can benefit.
I am never shy - in fact I have an overdoze of being an extrovert. (lol)

      • You are brave too, I guess that I am the shy type that had to overcome through trials and errors.

    • @peachpurple You perhaps must have observed about me being brave when I speak out here. I am more of a proactive as when I speak out others benefit too.

    • My sister is one who becomes shy often. It honestly wasn't until she got a job as a server when she became more able to hold a conversation. I am going to show her this post I believe that she will like it. Awesome job I love this.

    • Too be shy is not intentional, but the concern must try her/his very best to overcome that shyness to avoid depression. To be always shy creates negative impact to the owner self. What to do, join an organization.

    • Being an introvert doesn't mean that you are a shy person. Introverts are just people who don't talk much, they are usually the type that say something only when they ar3 asked something. They may not talk much but they can do things that other people can't. I remember i used to be a quiet person when I was younger but that never made me shy, i could stand out before people and talk in the begining I may have that shaky voice but as I go along I get better and better. I remember in school I was part of a drama team where i turned out to be the best actress something many people thought I would not pull off. So I may say that people who are shy doesn't mean that they are rude or something like that. It's just a part of life but you can overcome it as you grow older.
