To understand and to do is two different things.

After reading the advice books, people sometimes say, that they did not read anything what they did not know before. However, most, even still reading the same advice does not apply to their own lives. If you had to attend a seminar or company event, where all participants have agreed on what to do next, and a year later, nothing has changed, you know that to understand and to do is two different things. The mere fact that people are aware of what to do, does not ensure that they really will do it. This belief creates confusion.

We idolize strong willed and contemn people who lack self control. It’s stupid, because only a few can accurately evaluate and predict their willpower.  We not only overestimate it, but also constantly depreciate influence of irritants of the environment and misleading us. Efforts of our will that we have set as a target, rarely equate to the will, which we demonstrate when aiming the target. This belief leads to over-confidence.

If we really want to change, we have to accept the fact that we cannot give in every time when the calendar proposes a more attractive alternative to the usual day. Successful changes do not happen overnight, so there is required consistency.

When we are planning a long time to work on our changes, we feel smart and energetic, but after some time already beginning to feel the fatigue and we are more likely to give up. Planning to seek objectives we believe that we remain energetic and our enthusiasm for change will never fade. We rarely recognize that self-control is limited. When we get tired, our self-control begins to weaken and eventually disappear altogether.

Changes can be caused by a sudden insight or the will burst. Briefly such person feels enlightenment. However, very often for the man experiencing breakthrough is inherent magical thinking. Suddenly conversion should be interpreted with caution. It may happen, but it will only be short-lived and not significant and lasting change, as the basis for such a process is an impulse but not a strategy, faith rather than structure.
