is it ok to travel alone?

I love to travel and visit new places. I would spend all my money on such things since for now I don’t have a family that would hold me back. But ever since I discovered this passion of mine I’ve been having one issue: not finding a travel partner. For various reasons: price, lack of time and so on people chose not to go.

I even experienced an ugly moment when a friend of mine promised me to come with me to a foreign country and in the last moment she made up her mind due to the fact that she doesn’t have money.

I’ve been reading blogs about people who travel alone and most of them say what a wonderful experience it is. But the fact is that I’m a little afraid to do it. I’ve never been a pretty sociable person and going on my own would mean getting out a little bit of my comfort zone.

Plus it’s also the fear of the unknown: a foreign country, foreign culture…

this year I wanted to go to morocco on my own but what stopped me is exactly what I told you: this fear of mine.

This is why I am curious: do you think it’s ok for a woman to travel on her own? what advice do you give me in order to be able to overcome this fear of mine?

There are many beautiful places that I would like to visit: morocco, israel, india, tunis and the list could continue

And the fact is to be honest that rather than in bad company I would prefer to be on my own.

I’m convinced that if I will be able to overcome this fear I won’t have any problem afterwards in traveling alone.

Looking forward to hearing from you and who knows maybe one day we will actually meet face to face

    • As for me, it is fine to travel alone. I had been doing this before. The most unforgettable experience of traveling when I had a mission in Central Asia. Basically, I traveled anyone with me. It is considered a solo flight to have the mission.

During this mission, I am solely handling the medical mission in my area and tried to maintain the partnership with the other international NGOs. It was a fun time during that time. I had traveled around the country.

    • I haven't traveled all that much even with others. So I would be intimidated to do so alone, especially in a foreign country. I admire those adventurous souls who can!

      • it's the same thing with me. I love to travel but the fact is that I'm sick with ruining my vacation due to the fact that the people I travel with complain about this and that

    • For me, your journey will be enjoyable if you have your own travel buddy than travelling alone by yourself most especially in a foreign country. That's so scary! Imagine you will go out from your comfort zone and going to a foreign land which is very unknown to you? You don't know the people and the things which store for you there. What if someone kill you! You can never escape and ask for help. We will never know! You have to be vigilant everytime. But if you're have lots of guts and motivation travelling alone, you can do it as a part of your own journey! All you have to do is pray that God will guide you and protect you from any unexpected morbid things that will happened as you ahead in your self discovery and adventures.

      • this is exactly what I'm scared of. ok the fact is that I would literally be alone because I would travel with a travel agency so i would be included in a group of people

    • If travelling in foreign countries particularly in the famous destination, you can do it but of course it would always be better if you have company. But when traveling in mountainous areas or going to hiking or unexplored paces, it is a must.

      • I'm not too much of a fan of the mountain. if I would travel i would do it to the countries that have a different culture than my own. I'm fascinated of arabic countries

    • Base on my experience, I prefer to travel with someone like a friend or relative. It is because when I first traveled alone to North China to teach there, I felt so afraid because I was told that Chang Chun China is near Xiamen only to learn that it cost 6 hours to reach there. there were many places I traveled alone like Seoul, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, twice, China thrice, Australia and New Zealand 6 times.I envied those who traveled with someone.

      • it's ok to travel with someone if you have the right companion but if that person doesn't share your tastes it's not going to be a pleasant experience

    • I am on my way to a trip to Hangzhou China and I'm going by myself. I've traveled by myself before, twice actually. The two times before, I went on a trip to Jamaica to visit family but this upcoming trip is something that I have never done before. Not sure how I feel about it now but I was hoping to get one other person to come with me but I guess that is not the case since everyone either doesn't have the money or cant do it before they are afraid of the language barrier. I think its all up to you how you want to travel, best bet is just to be careful doing it. :)

      • that's so cool. please let me know how it went. I admire your courage and hope that one day I will get to that point too

    • I think it depends on where you're going? But it could be best if you brought someone along, like a travelling buddy. After all, a lone thief would think twice before mugging a group of people or a pair of travelers even if they were both females.

    • First you need to overcome your fears by travelling to a foreign country alone and explore only then will you be able to be free with yourself. Travelling alone is a good thing but again it depends what are you going for is it for adventure or work or just for some quiet time. You have to consider all this things before you take one journey.for adventure I would recommend you take someone fun to go with and that will definitely cost you because you don't expect someone to accompany you one journey that you proposed. But if it's work related this one you can do it alone while you enjoy the benefits that come with it. This is the best because you will definitely have a guide who will take you around and at some point you may just decide to do it all alone at some point and that will be a wonderful thing. So take a journey on your own to a foreign place and walk around do stuff on your own discover new things and your fears will disappear good luck

    • Travelling is always a good and nice experience. We call such lonely travelers as 'Indie Traveler' in Tourism.

If you want to know about people you should travel and if you want to know about yourself you should travel alone.

There are many places and countries in the world. Everyone will have the desire to visit and see as many places as one can in life. But there are only some who can make it a success.

Some people do have money but they can not do it for fear of their own personality.

There are many who do not have money but have a good personality to move freely with others and go ahead with the chosen destination fearless.

It is for the latter there are many websites that have come into existence. They encourage these travelers to take up tours as per the instructions stipulated by them and send the details of the journey along with recordings. They will pay for the entire tour. There are many people who are taking up such tours. There are even young ladies who are taking up such tours and finishing even the world tour also. One should read their articles and their experience and advises and have a clear plan about the places of visit. It is always good to have a collection of all the articles of such travelers.

As far as my personal experience is concerned I had one such a lady from Indonesia. It was really unexpected that she had seen my article on SABARIMALA TOUR. She contacted me via my email. We exchanged views on many things and about many places.

One fine morning I replied to her email in BAHASA . The reply came immediately. She was immensely pleased. Our friendship continued. One fine day she came to CHENNAI as per her schedule tour. I received her going all the way from Hyderabad. We felt very happy. She trusted me. She trusted my friendship. She spent 12 days in India. She visited BALAJI TEMPLE in Tirumala also. She also accompanied me to see Sabarimala. She could come up to NEMELIKAL. From there the ladies are not allowed. She stayed in a nearby lodge and waited for my return. She knew about many things and noted everything in her Diary. We spend time very nicely.

What I want to say is to have some trust. Choose the best of your friends for a tour if your are a lady and want to travel alone.

There are certain countries in the world where a lady can not and should not travel alone.

    • Traveling is a good fun always but traveling alone in my openion is not good.I think traveling with friends is a much better.because if we travel friends we can have wounderful time togather.I alwasy travel around when i am free but i always have someone with me.
