Leaving university or college, my reality

Something that every student has heard in high school is how important it is to work hard in order to go to a good university and become someone who makes a good living and doesn’t have to worry about paying bills. While I wasn’t sitting next to the students that disrupted class I also wasn’t making the kind of grades I could be a physician or doctor with I manage to find an institution where I could do IT without having done core maths in high school. I honestly wouldn’t have gone by my own will as I couldn’t yet at all comprehend what things are like when you’re no longer a student.

I always thought id remember the day I went to school for the last time and expected a feeling of freedom to rush through my body after my final exam but that wasn’t the case. After stepping out of the gates and spending a few days at home I realized that the only thing that had changed was that i dint have anything to do. So I decided to go for a higher certificate in software development and let it be that. I passed the three computer literacy books in good time with higher marks than I ever had in high school however when it came to processing and logic concepts I soon realized that I was studying the wrong thing, software development would have me in front of a screen for hours writing source code when what I was actually thinking about was the hardware. With the fear of being a college dropout for something as simple as a certificate I decided to keep studying but it wasn’t going well.

I struggled with the book to the point of failing two written exams and as much as I would have liked to drop the course my college offered me an option to switch courses to hardware while I was still a new student so I took the hardware course known as network administration and started on my first book, a+.
The a+ book was the best place for me to start a network administrator as it allowed me to have a deep understanding of operating systems, basic administration of hosts and system services, configuration of workstations, troubleshooting, hardware and basic network support for new computers. After having a basic understanding of computer configuration and administration I proceeded with N+ and soon after, security. In less than 2 years I had 19 certifications which collectively made me a specialist in systems engineering and network administration as I graduated with a higher certificate in network engineering. At that moment I decided that I had done enough studying in my life from the 12 years in school including two years spent on the higher certificate but what I didn’t keep in mind was the fact that I was competing with people who had degrees and diplomas. It was only until a few days ago that i was sure i wasn’t going to further my studies and while I might already know what I need to in order to do tasks in a business environment I figured that I would be better off if I had at least a 3 year degree.
This naturally made me wonder about the people who dropped out during the time I was studying and also the individual who was escorted off campus for being intoxicated, not to say that many of us weren’t but there are many people who lose control when they drink and it cost this particular individual his education and possibly his career. After completing my course I spent a lot of time and data on the internet looking for jobs, soon after that I started to look for ways to earn money online and wasted a lot of time on a lot of foolish websites that I don’t even keep on my bookmarks anymore. After spending months of trial and error trying to make a decent profit to make up for bandwidth consumption I could finally comprehend the idea behind furthering my studies and why it was so important. The fact was that I couldn’t motivate myself to work alone as hard as I should to make the kind of profit needed to satisfy my wants and needs which meant that even if i wanted to learn a programming language to make the next big app I would have to commit months to learning and more time developing it, these are things I could do while studying since it was always apparent that people studying for their higher certificates in a year had a much bigger course load than people doing degrees and diplomas over a number of years. So the way i saw it, the way I still see it now is that there are more benefits to me going back to campus and getting the best out of my situation while its still socially acceptable for me to be living with my parents.
So if you’re someone who had once dropped out, you need to ask yourself if going back could make your current situation better, which it might. A qualification doesn’t only have to show that you know the work you’re applying to do but that you can commit to something and having more than one type of qualification shows that you have more to bring to the table. Understand that its about which candidate is best suited for the job and if it proven and turns out that someone else can put in twice the amount of work that you can for the same expenses then you have lost and must now start looking for work elsewhere, things could be much worse, its easier to open a book than to find a way to sell one.

    • Here in our country, the diploma and your grades of having passed college is very important. It is what is being asked for by the Human Resources when applying for a job.

Of course, after that you will be interviewed about you, your experience, your skills and whatever knowledge you may know related to the job you will be applying.

Though some dropouts from college also succeeded in putting up their business, but those are rare occurrences. Mostly a completed course in college will be important for one to land a good job here.

    • If you are still young, try to get a degree which could land you a good-paying job in the future as a professional.
